Most adults who go for an autism assessment will already have at least one co-morbid diagnosis, so there is no need to test for them all over again....

Ditto IQ tests. If it's clear that you don't have any learning disabilities and your IQ is >70, there's no need for an IQ test either.
I had no previous diagnosis for anything coming into this. They were not only testing for Autism but for other possible diagnoses as well so that they could be ruled out.

The IQ test was done to establish quantitative variances for processing speeds and other things, not to see if it was over 70.

The only real way to tell if someone has a learning disability or not is to perform an IQ test. You can't make the assumption that they do or don't have one by looking at academic work alone. Also, autistics frequently have very split IQ profiles, with significant gaps between their verbal and nonverbal IQs that neurotypicals do not have; an IQ test with such a split score would further indicate the presence of autism, or some other learning difference.

If somebody has a degree it's safe to say they don't have an IQ under 70 or 80 - whatever the cutoff point for a diagnosis of LFA is. It doesn't matter whether their IQ is 100 or 160 - they'll be Asperger's/HFA either way. Anything else is just a pointless vanity exercise, like so much on this forum.

You know I get you so I am not irritated by you in the least. You can be as tough as you like on the outside but I know that you are cool under all of that.

I would say that's very true: A person with an IQ of 70 would have great difficulty taking the SATs in high school in the US. The SAT's are not easy tests. They would have difficulty with most high school academic courses.

Same with the O-levels in England.

I don't see many people here talking about their low IQ. Most don't even mention their IQ. IQ, to many people here, are a poor indication of potential in autistic people.

Perhaps, but I don't hold that against you. And you know if I say that I mean it. We're still friends. I don't mind angry weirdos.

Aaarrggggghhhhh!

It's no good. Once again, your sheer niceness has trumped my angry weirdness. Once again I lose..... <_<.

@kraftiekortie - Er, was it me who didn't answer your last PM or somebody else? :-/

You guys are great. I just had a great big laugh. And with that I must get to bed. Good night all!

Guys, I have an appointment with the autism guy at 11am tomorrow. I probably should be thinking of going to bed considering it's half three on this side of the pond... >_<.

F*** knows what I'll tell him. That I'm weird and angry? :/

Edit: Holy crap, if you're talking of going to bed, then I really must be off. Goodnight skibum! Compliments aren't easy for me, but, er, thank you. Really.

I just got my official diagnosis report in the mail yesterday. It's a pretty overwhelming experience to read about myself in this report.

Skibum – It sounds like this has been a good experience for you.

FWIW – My own experience (with receiving the diagnosis report) was much different. I found the report to be incredibly depressing. It described an individual that I did not want to be (if that makes sense). Thankfully, in the 18 months since, I have become much more accepting of myself.
