And THIS is why I tapped out of the conversation.

You didn't diagnose anyone, as mental illness diagnoses require interaction with the patient, and (last I checked) they are dead.

This topic does not seem to be able to be discussed rationally in any forum. I disagree with you... THAT is my RIGHT. You got insulting, condescending and basically attack me for my stance.

I am not sure why you feel the need to address me with such disrespect when I have discussed this with you calmly and cordially, but I don't appreciate it. I tapped out, hoping to prevent this very thing from occurring... However, your parting shots do need to be addressed... Simply put... you are not rid of me... there is no riddance enacted or to be had. I simply do not wish to engage in conversation that is so emotionally charged that it requires modification of language and definitions to accommodate people's opinions on a subject.

I don't know why you feel the need to be rude, condescending, snarky and insulting... but I don't have time for people like that in my life... I wish you well...

I did not intend to be disrespectful at first; if that is how I came across, I apologize. Just like it is your right to disagree with me, it is my right to defend my position. Forums are meant for discussion, after all. I am sorry if my defense seemed rude, because it was not supposed to be so.

However, by the time you replied to my second answer, you basically stated that I was wasting your time; a particularly rude dismissal, considering how you were the one who started the conversation with me to begin with. For that reason, my third reply was intentionally snarky. If I misunderstood your intent with your farewell post, I apologize for my aforementioned last reply, too.

I see where the affront occurred...

The quote "But I am tapping out of this conversation... I have more productive things to do and I am shooting on my series tomorrow..."

I was not referring to the exchanges between you and I. I was referring to the thread as a whole... I was also not calling your words a waste of time... I was stating that, in all examples of this topic that will appear on this board and all others like it... my expressing my opinion is non-productive, as a) it will convince no one of my position, b) ends up with me getting insulted (which happened before this exchange) and c) I feel like I am pissing in the wind, because almost every opinion is emotional and will ignore anything I have to say.

I am sorry that you took it as directed at you... but by this conversation, I mean a much bigger picture use, as in... I will not be discussing this topic, et al, in the future.

Interesting topic...

The medical definition of a disease is “an impairment of the normal state of the living animal or plant body or one of its parts that interrupts or modifies the performance of the vital functions, is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms, and is a response to environmental factors (as malnutrition, industrial hazards, or climate), to specific infective agents (as worms, bacteria, or viruses), to inherent defects of the organism (as genetic anomalies), or to combinations of these factors"

I'm sure the above could be said for Autism.

Then again, it depends if you see everyone on the Autistic spectrum as having "an impairment of the normal state". What is the normal state? There are many people within the population which have traits which you could argue begin to border on Autistic (social inverts, obsessive of certain topics, repetitive). There's not a particularly clear line between some people in the population diagnosed with AS, and others which are not. As there is no clear distinction, how do you determine the "normal state"? (I grant that the distinction is more clear with other disorders on the autistic spectrum.)

This is contrast to other mental diseases such as Alzheimer’s, where the disease can be clearly seen to alter the structure and function of the "normal state" of the brain.

Autism is a collection of ways to be human. Not a disease.
