An entire industry has been spawned to breed insecurities.

So – how much are you influenced by television advertising?

(I do not watch television, but i do get banners on the web and similar ads thrown in my face on youtube.)

When someone shoves something in my face, asking me to like it, or keep nagging about it - it has the opposite effect on me. In fact i go so far as to boycot it.

I had forgotten about this as I've seen and heard less advertising nowadays, but that's exactly how I saw advertising when we had to view it.

Not at all. Advertising takes over every TV channel, billboard, radio station, newspaper and magazine, and website. There should be a law that bans ads.

Advertising seems to rely on making a subliminal connection with potential buyers, and since subtlety is lost on me, I seem to have a fair degree of sales resistance.

I'm more likely to buy something after a trusted friend has mentioned how much they like it. Also, most of the things I buy are not advertised on TV, the radio, or teh Interwebz.

So my answer to this thread's subject question is "No".

Nver! In fact, I've trained myself not to be emotionally effected in any way by advertising. For instance, if a commercial is funny, and I feel a laugh coming on, I quickly jab myself in the leg with a cocktail fork.

I don't get influenced by ads. They sound stupid to me (especially if it shows things that have nothing to do with the product it is advertising). I can pick up appeal to emotion in them.

They actually make me avoid buying the product they're pandering.

That sounds like a job for Adblock Plus:

https://adblockplus.org/

Works very well for me in Firefox - I no longer see any ads on YouTube or anywhere else on the Web.
