There are symptoms which are common to all autistic people; there are others which only some autistic people exhibit.

Even those which are common may well present in different ways in different people...

Once again, thank you for your insightful contributions.
I do however, have a follow up question.
Do you suppose Asperger's is treatable, or can one find effective strategies for coping with it?

Not sure what you mean by "treatable." I'm sure there are fairly effective strategies for coping with many aspects of it. Sadly, a lot of them depend on the trust, sympathy and co-operation of others, which can be rather difficult to find.

I believe Asperger's could be "managed," in the sense that one with Asperger's could adjust to the world around him/her.

I suppose things like "social skills training" and that ilk are "treatments" in a way.

MPE: Absolutely: people exhibit symptoms within autism in very individual ways.

I could recommend "The asperkids secret book of social rules" by Jennifer Cooke O´Toole (Jessica Kingsly Publishers)
It is really for teenagers, but aspies in all ages can enjoy reading it.
It is clear, systematic and explains both aspie- and NT rules and communication and why they are different.
(I actually thought, I knew it all).
