I´m on facebook, but I only use it for communicating about interests, preserving a degree og contact to certain people - and to discuss politics - or at least applaud or "boo" - and spread important articles.
It can become too much - I tend to stay there, glued to it - so, I try to set a time limit.

I'm quite happy to be on it. It's given me a many hours of entertainment over the years, enables me to hook up with friends more cheaply than ringing / texting them.

Also, I need it to promote my music, as does anyone involved with any creative endeavour nowadays.

That´s right. Justin Bieber made use of it.

Well Adolf Hitler made use of the printing press, but that doesn't make me want to burn books ...

I do take your point about how it's tempting to waste too much time on it though. 45 minutes a day is my self-imposed limit. Nonetheless, whilst it may have it's annoying qualities, I don't find it as cumbersome to negotiate as I used to find MySpace.

Also as an unsigned, unmanaged musician you can't get gigs without a Facebook page nowadays - which sucks, but there's nothing I can do about it.

As I said on another thread, I really don't like FB. I have one but I have kept it in case someone wants to talk to me. I'm just too lazy to deactivate it. Plus with some sites you go on you need to have one but I can't even remember the last time I posted. It's been so long. It's even been a long time since I messaged anyone on there. I think it really is a popularity contest. People just want you to add them as their friend to get their numbers up. I think the most annoying thing at all is how they show their life to be so great. Seems like all my friends have jobs so I get envious.

Also the one reason I would ever use it is, if you are into music, most musicians now update their career progress through Facebook instead of their website now. This causes me to look at it occasionally, I regret to admit.

True but I think they update more often through Twitter...at least the ones that I'm into do.

I don't do Facebook, but not for that reason.

I've been online for over 20 years. One of the first rules I learned was to never give out my real name online. I have followed that rule for 20 years, and I'm not going to change now, just because Facebook came along.

The entire concept of Facebook is just weird to me. Having real life family and friends interacting with online friends is just dumb IMHO.

I've almost forgotten how much better WP is.

Yeah Twitter is a while other thing. It took me forever to even understand the point. I still don't really. At least the once a month rounds of about a dozen band related facebook pages lets me know who's playing shows, and who's working on new material. That's more or less all I want to know.

I've never done Facebook or Myspace or any other form of social media

I always used to internet to escape from my life, never liked the idea of broadcasting how much of a loser I am
