I'm not really good at anything and I don't really have any talents. I have things I like, such as drawing, writing, and singing, but I'm not very good at any of them.

The combination of comparing ourselves to the Autistic savant characters on TV, autism inspiration porn and being told our whole lives we are wrong in many ways certainly can make us feel that way.

if I had talent [like The Monkees' for example, none of whom were musicians, who managed to teach themselves their instruments in just a few months' work], my 2+ years of steady work on guitar would have resulted in me being able to make a living with it. but so far it has not.

I feel like I'm talented at all the wrong parts of all the right things.

:raises wing: I haven't found a single thing that I'm better than average at. And my interests aren't ever going to get me anywhere, either - I'm currently obsessed with Tool, Pokemon, and Cenobites from Hellraiser. I'm pretty sure none of those can possibly be of any use.

It's like missing the one part of the machine that makes it actually work.

paraphrasing mark twain, "... the difference between lightning, and a lightning bug..." is one of degree, in both cases there is still light. the machine limps along, a shadow of its potential glory, but that is still better than a totally inert husk of futility.

Still really frustrating though.

tell me about it. but I can tell you from the vantage point of old and grizzled, that it gets easier over time in terms of being too danged tired to care anymore.

renaeden,

That really stinks on the part of your teacher! A better way of saying it would be, "I know how much you want to do this and I see you're running into some trouble. Can I help you or find someone you can work with?" If someone has a passion, it's terrible to give up on someone if they're having a hard time.

Yes, that would have been a much nicer thing to say. Programming definitely isn't my strong point but I would like to finish it so I can move on to web design.

I'm not especially talented at anything, but I'm decent at everything I've tried - except piano. It's a bit odd, but I don't really want to be exceptional in any regard. I would rather be average.

Nobody is good at everything

Some have more potential, skill, or talent than others

"Life" is not a talent show

Some things come easier to some people

Talent does not justify their existence

Not all talents useful

Some skills you could work on

Nature versus nurture

Same. Only thing I'd say I'm remotely good at is PC building, but that's just expensive legos at the end of the day. There are some things that I want to become talented at like drawing. I've been just lazy about learning. Seeing the amazing stuff people are able to draw; it demotivates me, realizing how far away I am. The road to expertise is a long one.

My brother who has Asperger's can get really good at doing pretty much anything. He has a lot of talents, like programming, playing instruments, etc. I could probably do that, but I do not have the attention span nor the motivation to stick to most things. It takes me longer to pick up things so I get discouraged sometimes. My only "talent" is picking up facts and information about things I'm interested in, and I guess I pick up on languages easier than other people but that's just because of the patterns involved in languages.
