For those with a late in life diagnosis...
My precious lil "parents" had the nerve to tell me that "you don't care about anyone except yourself" and"you don't have any friends"
"Failure to attend to special education need"
Child Protective services violation
A counselor kept asking me "does she hurt you?" Three times in one hour
Rain stickney
"Hurt" could be physical, emotional, intentional, accidental. Sounds drastic
But "hurt" just means negative outcome
Based on the recipients standards
Which means that, anyone could correctly claim anything "hurt" them
Occupational therapy
Applied behavior analysis
Speech therapy
Regional center provides for, if client diagnosed before 18
Mine was 21
The local school district has a Bridges Program. Job training age 18 to 24. Taxpayers funded.
Government benefit
My precious lil "parents" were calloused and not indulgent
But that's just verbal
They made me take the SAT in 7 the grade
Memorize 10 to 20 SAT words a day, in the summer between third and seventh grade
Between 10 and 20 SAT words a week, in the school year, between 3rd and seventh grade
But not "abusive". They had a moral right to be ass holes

Even with great intentions, some parents are just not good with kids in general, and more are not good with special needs. Quite a few expect a child to carry on family traditions, or even to succeed at something a parent failed at. My parents were very good at not repeating the mistakes their parents had made. Unfortunately, they also didn't repeat the things their parents had gotten right by accident, so I just never had the basics they expected to encounter.
In their defense, the definition of
autism changed.
Even as of the fifth edition of the Diagnosic statistical manual, no more Asperger's
So they could not have known what the changes would be
Unless they were precognitive
My precious lil "parents" did their best
But doing your best does not guarantee success
