But is it really important what a couple of dolls are thinking or not thinking anyway?

I answered incorrectly the first time I took it and then had a "DUH!" moment and realized I didn't really think about it and answered too fast.

I think the point is: does everyone get WHY they got it wrong if they did???

But does it matter? Who cares about the stupid dolls? They are clearly psychotic murderers awaiting to eat each others brains.

Hi,

I thought this discussion of the Sally Anne test was brilliant - just found it!
I quoted the test at a conference I just did in Atlanta, and after the talk loads of people in the 500-strong audience came up and told me they got it wrong. Some of them were teachers of people with ASDs.....

My response to first part was correct.
Respone to the second part, confusion, then, why would Anne be thinking about what Sally would be thinking? Next, why wouldn't she just ask? Next, why would dolls be thinking? Then, why is any of this important?

That sounds almost like a test for parallel/visual thinking vs. sequential/auditory thinking. If you think visually can't you just shift your focus to a specific doll and rewatch the incident from their 'point of view'? Whereas if you think sequentially then statements like 'he thought she thought they thought who thought...' just tie themselves into a knot... :-P

Assuming Sally and Anne are sentient, how old is Sally and how old is Anna, in terms of human developmental age? There is not enough information!! !!

I think that after having her marble hidden by Anne so many times, Sally should be used to it and stop expecting to find it in the last place she left it.
I also think they both need to get another hobby.

It's funny, i can answer both questions correctly, but that's with logical thinking. I know that in a real time situation i always automatically assume that everyone knows what i know. There is a difference between what i can go thru step by step with logical analyse, and what i can grasp in the real time of a true situation.

Now that i learned about that "theory of mind" thing, i can look back at some situation where i was really no clue. How many times i've been told : "He wasn't there!" and i just simply didn't compute that HE needs more explanations (at least, an introduction).

As a side note, while playing with my daugther and her dolls (she was 6 at that time) i past her the test, she failed!
