Why do people think solitude is such a bad thing?

I'm wary of this binary introvert-extravert labelling system. Even if it was assigned a quantity, like 0 = can't cope with people at all and 100 = can't cope without them at all, I think any real individual's relationship with others and with solitude is more nuanced than that. To quite a degree, I can't cope with people or without them. I'd hate to be completely isolated for a long time, but people have always brought a lot of unwanted complication and discomfort into my life along with the pleasure, relief from loneliness, and fulfillment that also goes with the turf. And so much depends on who it is I'm sharing my time with. A lot of people could vanish off the face of the Earth for all I'd care, in fact I often wish they would, at least from a social viewpoint. But the ones I can relate well to, they're better than gold to me. I suspect most people, Aspies included, have the same attitude to people as I have, just that the proportions and the specific benefits and drawbacks differ from person to person. Even the common ASD tendency to be strongly into our own heads isn't absolute. I find it easier to talk than to listen, but I'm capable of shutting up and listening, under the right circumstances.

Reminds me of "toy story" and "Inside out", For some reason a place where discarded toys live alone makes me feel really sad.

I suspect that a lot of people imagine that someone is always plotting to take advantage of them, so solitude seems dangerously ill-informed.

I don't know why this conversation made me think of the movie Toys. The one with Robin Williams, Michael Gambon, LL Cool J, and Joan Cusack. The room where all the old toys were pushed into retirement or storage. And then at the end they fight the war toys. :D

it is a brighter spin to the christmas island of defective toys from a cartoon you may be familiar with.
