I fit into the “don’t need as much social interaction as most people, but would like SOME and have none” category.

Once my grandmother told me not to think I didn't need friends. I was a bit insulted. I KNEW I needed friends. I just didn't have them.
I'm 48 years old; where does a woman my age meet people without participating in clubs and groups? I hate those kinds of social gatherings and I hate small talk. I got my hair cut today and the beautician kept attempting to have a conversation with me and it irritated me. I appreciated that she was trying to be nice, I really did. She could have been mean and bitchy... it's just that I felt like I was being interviewed or being given a questionnaire. She asked "Are you from here? Where did you live before here? Why did you move to this state? What is your favorite tv show? Are you married? When did you get married?" etc. It drove me crazy. I closed my eyes and that helped to make her realize I wasn't in the talking mood. When she asked when I got married, I said "June of 1999" and she laughed at me and said "You can't say how many years?" I said "Ohhh, it's been 8 years." But I had to add up the years in my head really fast because I was nervous and forgot how many years it's been LOL
If I could find a friend that is like my husband, I'd be so happy. We get along so perfectly well... I'd like to clone him. But anyway, like so many of you have said, it's not that we don't want any friends at all, it's that we NEED a TON more alone time than the average person and we're very picky about WHO we make friends with and when we do find someone we want to be friends with, that person doesn't want to stick around for long cuz they either think we're too weird or they get frustrated that we don't want to go out with them every time they want to do something.
