I scratch my head with both hands simultaneously until I feel better. I also vigorously apply pressure to my forehead with the "heel" of my right hand in a circular motion with my fingers pointing up. I turn my head as far as I can to the left and then to the right, over and over till I feel better. I rock and I sway. I don't know if these are stims or tics or a little of each.

I don't know if it would be considering stimming or not, but I have a habit of tapping to the beat of music, though almost always consciously doing it. Usually with one of my hands, but if my hands are doing something my foot or head takes over. But it only really happens with music I know the beat to. Hell, even when I'm playing video games, particularly racing games, if I'm listening to music I tend to drive around while honking the horn to the beat, Ive also been known to jump to the beat of music on any game with a jump button. At least I don't do the honking while actually driving, but I'm usually tapping on the steering wheel then.

Might explain why I love Guitar Hero so much.

eelektrik -

I am the SAAAAMMME WAY!! Hahahaha...

I don't honk my car horn, but I drum on the window, roof, steering wheel, etc in a really active, animated manner...I wouldn't be surprised if passersby thought I was having a Grand-Mal Seizure in my car. Lots of leg shaking and foot stomping, too. I act the same way at my computer, when I'm listening to music.

It is like I am totally possessed by the beat, and I can't stop moving to it. But it brings me so, so, so much calm, joy and focus. Silence and music I don't like have the opposite effect - anxiety, attention deficit and irritability.

I think it is fair to say it is like auditory stimming.

Hell, I say I have visual stimming, too - I spend a lot of time in the mirror. Not in a vain way, but I feel the need to keep "checking on things". It is very calming to me.

Good to know there are others out there like me that actually do like to rock out to music while driving. I kinda miss my delivery job at this point, as getting to spend the majority of my work shift alone and listening to loud music was great. Unfortunately I had an accident on the way to work back in July and quit because I couldn't afford to repair my car, and didn't trust it doing the 150 miles or so a day that I was doing usually.

One thing I noticed though while driving is the vast majority of other people driving, looked completely bored and miserable. And yet for me its one of the most calming places to be. Though I hate it when I'm riding in the car with someone else and they aren't listening to anything.

^ Actually, I should have clarified. I don't drive.

I meant to quote only the part where you mentioned you do it at your computer desk :)

I'll catch myself rocking or swaying, but it's not like a full motion, I don't think it's really noticeable, nobody's ever commented on it.

I also drum with my hands, lightly slapping my palms on surfaces and tapping thumb and fingers. I do it to my own beat, that's in my head. My brother pointed it out to me before, I just told him "It's my thing, get your own." My dad, who I'm thinking may have been aspie or autie, would rub his hands together a lot, that was "his thing". I do drive, and I'll beat on the steering wheel in beat to the music, or if I'm passenger I'll beat on my lap and windowsill.

When I'm sitting at a desk/table I'll swing my legs or if they're grounded I'll(I'm not sure how to describe it...) shake them from the knees, it probably looks like I'm hyper or like I'm having a seizure.

I only flap my hands as an agitated/frustrated gesture, when I'm agitated or frustrated. And I'll say "ahhhh" in a "Go away" kind of manner.

I don't know which of these qualifies as 'stimming'(either due to the actions they are or due to their infrequent occurance and duration), but:

-Whenever I sit down, I ALWAYS have one of my hands touching my head, usually my lips resting on an index finger with my elbow resting on something solid. This helps me think. Sometimes I'll rest my head at the palm of my hand or rest my forhead on my index, middle, and ring fingers with the fingers curld into the palm of my hand.

-When I sit down and have nothing to rest my arms on, I sit with them folded across my chest with my head facing downward and feel uncomfortable if I don't do this. This is regardless of whether others are around. This is my default posture when sitting without something to rest my arms on.

-When standing, I prefer to keep one of my hands in a pocket. Either that, or stand with my arms crossed. This happens all the time.

-Sometimes when standing, I'll curl and extend my fingers repeatedly in a sequential order starting with my pinkie finger and ending with my index finger. This happens rarely, perhaps a few times a week and I only do it when standing still.

-I have on rare occassions caught myself rocking back in forth in my chair without previously noticing it, but this isn't often. Once a day or so, and never for a duration of more than 5 minutes at a time.

-If I'm at a desk and one of my hands is unoccupied and resting on the surface of the desk, I will on rare occassions engage in lifting my fingers on and off the surface in a sequential order making tapping noises with them.

-If wearing sandals while sitting down, I will repeatedly push them on and off of my feet and/or move them around. This occurs multiple times a day.

I initiate all of these things unconsciously.
