I like REAL hip-hop (not gangsta crap), nu-rave, nu-metal, modern rock, J-rock, and most forms of electronic music.

My favorite musical genres and a smattering of my favorites:

Classical (Tchaikovsky--LOVE his ballets)
70s-80s arena rock (Boston, Foreigner, Journey--Steve Perry is my absolute FAVORITE singer in the known universe)
80s metal (Def Leppard)
Neoclassical metal (Yngwie Malmsteen)
Symphonic/Power metal (Helloween, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish, Rhapsody)

Musical genres I can't stand:
Rap/hip-hop
Most alternative rock
Techno
Most jazz

I guess you could say I have pretty sh*tty taste in music.

Metal, hard rock like Rob Halford from Judas Priest's with his impressive vocal range and some opera such as Faust or Rigoletto. I just like those strong gutsy voices

Music I cant stand. Hip hop/rap falsetto male voices like Mika, some nasal country & western. French singers with a billy goat vibrato.

I like most things, as long as there is something I can connect to. 80s rap and hip hop I do not get along with, neither all that trance and house type stuff. I need instruments, damnit!

I really liked the beginning, but it went downhill when they started screaming obscenities.

In general, I do like several kinds of metal, but I prefer the types where they actually sing it. I tend to like a wide variety of stuff. Alice Cooper, Nightwish, Def Leppard, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Pink, Megumi Hayashibara, The Pillows, Simon & Garfunkel, and My Chemical Romance, for example. The only type of music I can't stand at all is jazz. In every other genre, there are things I like and things I loathe.

Big Band (Glenn Miller, Dorsey, Goodman)
Swing
Jazz/Dixieland/Zydeco
Irish/Celtic (Chieftains, etc)
Gothic Rock
Acoustic (David Lindley, Leo Kottke, etc)
Blues (Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc)
Mainstream (Pumpkins, Depeche Mode, Theory of a Deadman, Audioslave)
Classical/Orchestral
Asian (Kitaro)
Native (Dead can dance, etc)
Sinatra/Lounge/Latin Lounge (Pink Martini)

I listen to grunge and post-grunge a lot so 90s and 90s-inspired rock, angry music. :P Also alternative and experimental rock, love psychedelic rock/pop and indie pop especially jazz-inspired, dream pop as well. Nothing specific though genre-wise just anything that stands out to me and that has lyrics I can relate to in some way. I have very specific favorite bands though and I guess one special interest of mine is researching those bands and their members, old demos of theirs etc.
