One particular thing I noticed at clubs is that most people weren't good dancers. The majority of the people simply swayed from side to side. So, given that, a person shouldn't feel nervous or self-conscious about dancing, especially in a place like a club. As long as you're not doing some bizarre dance moves, then you'll be ok.
That's exactly how it is for me. I just improvise and get abundant compliments from people who don't know how to dance anyway. I think confidence is a major issue. No matter how sloppy I get, as long as I'm attempting things that other people are afraid to do, they respect me for it.
