I suppose my "favourite" stim is rubbing or tapping my fingertips on things... on my keyboard, on the table, on the chair arm, on my husband. As I sit here typing this, I'm stimming, the second I stop typing, my fingers start rubbing or tapping the keys.

I have one question... How can it be my "favourite" stim if it's just something I do? Most of the time, I don't even know I'm wearing a hole into his arm until my hubby says "stop that". :D

When I was little, I would bounce my legs off the ball of my foot while sitting (I was stunned to see that I wasn't the only one who does this. I still do it, but nowhere near as often... I don't know why it's less now. I was also a hair chewer (I stopped that, because I had to take yucky tasting medicine to get rid of the hair balls... eeeew) and a leg swinger, my legs more often than not touch the floor now.

I'm curious... is anyone else capable of looking back and seeing that they had an obviously different "favourite" stim at an earlier time in their lives???

Mine is running. I have to have music on when I run or it doesn't feel right. I spend a good chunk of my days running, which is probably one of the reasons why I always feel tired.

Mine is rocking back and forth. I used to bounce my leg up and down a lot but not anymore.

I cross my legs and like to flop my right foot around quite a bit.
I also like to hum and, sort of, grind my teeth to the melody.
When I was little I didn't know that people could hear me hum while I was on the toilet, so everyone got a kick out me humming in the john.

My Autistic son likes to make a really high pitched sound (kinda like a female opera singer!) when he's happy. He also likes to line up toy cars, crayons, or building blocks according to color, size and shape. It keeps him entertained for hours! He even does this at the stores that we go to. If some thing's out of place, OMG!
I was thinking about it and wondered if I stim too? Ever since I was a little kid I always rubbed my thumb (the nailbed side of my thumb) across my upper lip when I was nervous - and I still do this, but I don't do it in front of people. It calms me down and it helps me think! Strange or stim?

I rock slightly while standing (sometimes)... I always thought it was normal.

I had a couple of really weird ones, when I was a child. One is difficult to describe, but the other was scratching my scalp and then sniffing my fingers. I would do this repeatedly, until my mother would snap at me to stop it. Another was rocking while lightly banging my head on a hard surface behind me.

I rock gently back and forth quite often. I've managed to get it down to such a small rock that nobody ever notices it.

I used to snap my fingers, but I don't do that often anymore. I still pace like you wouldn't believe though. While waiting for my bus I'll constantly walk back and forth on a set path waiting for the bus.

I use my teeth to lightly tear at the top layer of skin on my lip. I push my tongue into various parts of my mouth, sometimes the roof, sometimes molars, sometimes canines.

I've gotten to a point where I'll very quietly whistle, so that if I'm in a decently loud area I'll whistle lightly, at a level nobody else can hear.

I also habitually rub my face and neck. It doesn't really help with the acne...

What don't I do. Most of the ones I do people can't tell. I rock side to side while I am standing up sort of looks like i have to pee.
Most of my stims have to do with my hands. I always have stuff in my hand, two or three legoes are fun so are elastic bands. if I kind find anything to play with i will pop my knuckles sit on my hands.

The strangest one right now is I chew my nails off and then play with them in my mouth after they are off my finger. Hours of stimming and nobody know unless it is on my tounge when I am talking, that can be embaressing.

I used to put everything in my mouth.then I swollowed a magnet and my mom put a stop to that pretty quick. I got a Goatee,Now that is a good time I usually have my lip in my mouth now.

Since I got myself a magnet-rod-kit I frequently build a tetrahelix with it. Then disassemble, and build it again - mostly in exactly the same fashion.
Those kinds of toys (also Lego or regular building blocks) are great fun and can be really calming

I still have a stim that I was told I did when I was a little baby. I let a lot of saliva cover my lips and then make a bubble with it by blowing gently, over and over. very soothing.

Salted sunflower seeds. 8O

Each one is like a tiny Lemarchand's box; each contains a dry and dead universe; each one is a puzzle to be solved by my teeth and tongue. 8O 8O

And the marketing employed on the back of the bag is just precious:

Quote:
Congratulations! You're a seeder!

Seeders are unique. They're cool, confident, independent, active, and hard working. They know that eating DAVID(R) Sunflower Seeds makes what they do more enjoyable. Things are better with DAVID because they're a snack and an activity. Experience SNACKTIVITY(TM).

I am not making that up.

Good fortune,

- Icarus is a snacktivity...

My biggest stim is walking.

I love just getting out, staying on the go by just walking. Haven't been able to get out and go like I used to so it's driving me nuts at the moment. Walking just helps me relieve stress. I can think. I get to see some sights. Plus, it's just being on the go and I guess that's a stim in itself.
