I was like that too, after I read Helter Skelter. It didn't take me too long to move on to my next obsession. I wouldn't worry too much.

Although, I do currently have a giant (3'x6') poster of Dexter on my wall (the one that looks like a cover of Rolling Stone, where he has a razor blade on his necklace, and says "He's got a way with murder"). What can I say, I love the whole 'pretending to be normal' thing and his awkwardness when dealing with other people. It's incredibly aspie-ish, in my opinion, when you take away the whole serial killer thing.

I've becoming slightly obsessed with Jeffery Dahmer as a result of this LOL.

I can really relate my si has been drugs for the part year it has lead me into a long cold lonely path of pain. I've recently cleaned up but cant rid myself of this obsession

Are we talking about actually experimenting with drugs, or studying them? I've read a number of books on various sorts of drugs, but never had so much as a cigarette...

Maybe you should focus in on what aspect of the subject that is interesting to you, and most likely there are other subjects that contain that same aspect.

Yeah, good point. If there's something interesting about researching drugs, there might be something equally interesting about a different, safer field.

I wonder why it led to drug use for you and not for me... Obviously we are different people, but which difference, I wonder, was most important?

I've been secretive and embarassed of many of my special interests since I care to imagine. And 90% haven't been in anyway shame worthy or taboo.

There's nothing wrong with having those interests. Just don't act out on them.

Funny-ish true story:

When I was in college I took Interior Lighting 400 as an elective. One of the projects was to do the interior lighting specs for a 3-floor nightclub. In addition we could also do the entire interior design for extra credit. My presentation was about a nightclub based on early century Prohibition. I called the club "Helter Skelter" 'cuz I thought it sounded hip and radical and energetic. After my final presentation to my class and the entire ID staff my professor pulled me aside and asked if I knew what Helter Skelter really meant. She knew- probably from my puzzled look- that I had no idea. What a lesson I received that day.

I have known to be obsessed with reading about awful people in the past. I don't think its wrong to be interested.. interest doesn't mean you agree with them or like them

Charles Manson is a fascinating subject. I'd love to talk about him. But that's the sort of thing you'd really have to probe someone about, many people would be uncomfortable thinking about him and what he managed to do.

I have a bad special interest too, in that some of the Hellsing characters I like are Nazis. I don't condone their ideologies and behaviors at all, but I like them only for their personalities.
