I get disability support payments. Some times I got nothing to spend on food and have learned to be hungry.

Not on disability. I currently work two part-time jobs. I feel more or less OK with it.
However, the person I live with tells me that when I work, I become tremendously irritable, anxious, passive-aggressive, and increasingly prone to irrational, destructive behavior and meltdowns. I have to agree with that, although I never seem to see it happening until it has already gotten pretty bad.

I've been on an employment roller-coaster as an adult. Part-time, mooching off parents, unemployed, Full-time salaried, multiple part-time, etc. Never been able to hold down a real job for more than about a year. Most jobs end much sooner.

The person I live with is on disability. She was diagnosed with bipolar in her teens, but says this was a gross misdiagnosis. I agree. Her condition is mostly the product of an abusive and chaotic childhood. She is highly gifted, but definitely NT. She works from home, selling her art online.

LadyMacbeth,

WOW! HERE, in the US, at least when you retire, and I believe on disability, the government will tax you even MORE if you work while getting benefits. Sometimes, the government likes to just DISCOURAGE work! 8O

As I said, it isn't classed as a benefit.. just a token payment to "help" those who have trouble with life day to day, and apply for it. I get £339 a month (and that's only because I still have my legs and are not violent when out in public to get the mobility component), which doesn't cover my rent. If I went on Income Support - which IS a benefit - I would not be able to work. I am entitled to it, as I have higher rate care on my DLA, but I want to work, which is a stupid decision on my part, as I would have more money each month on benefits. :(

I am not sure what country you are in...in the US local food banks and the Salvation Army among other places can help you with groceries. Call around. Churches also provide assistance.
You can go to your local human services office and find a list of food banks.

Macbeths ex-wife gets it for her AS and MFA sons. They get the same amount as I do each. Would advise it.
