Just because they don't conform to society's standards of beauty doesn't mean they are ugly.

I'm not ugly. I'm attractive, and I look just like a NT would (I'm not saying all NTs are attractive because I see some ugly people walking about!) I'm saying that Aspies and Autistic people aren't exclusively ugly. My friend had a little brother with severe Autism, but he was such a cute little boy.

I thought Down's Syndrome was where the face is a little different? I can always tell when somebody has Down's Syndrome just by looking at them - they seem to have different eyes or something. But the really handsome young man who sat next to me on the bus this morning could have had AS, for all I know.

Anyway, I did find on Youtube a man with AS, and he is gorgeous!! !

Well lots of aspies don't bathe. That's generally considered ugly.

Being AS/Aspergers doesn't make one ugly, per se, but living with these traits without support can turn one ugly through poor diet, hygiene, and forgetting to buy new clothes occasionally. Plus, the frustration and hopelessness that can build up due to living AS in an NT world shows on a person and contributes to "ugliness".

I don't know about ugly but autism seems to give a lot of people an unusual and strange quality that could be translated into ugliness or something similar.

The aspie stereotype is probably ugly because of a relation with nerds and bad hygiene.

I could probably look for more but I'm tired. Remember that AS is also under-diagnosed, so there's others. Either way, the times they-are-a-changin'. More "good looking" Aspies will inevitably show up. So this concern isn't worth worrying about and the stereotypes are false as always.

Or, I'm just optimistic. ;)

Excuse me? I constantly hear ADHD is a myth made up by pharmaceutical companies to push drugs on children that don't need them. Or called stupid.

ADHD isn't such a big deal? The executive function is more impaired than AS. You try having big dreams and not having the right motivation/organisation to even start any of them because you are so overwhelmed by all the steps involved.

Anyway, enough ranting. I try my best to not watch or read any negative stereotypes by lesser informed people.
I've not come across people stereotyping AS as ugly. Look at that Nicholls boy.

Well I think he's alright.

I've never heard of a stereotype about Aspies being ugly. Anyway, I'm not ugly. If I knew how to post a picture of myself, I would. Then you'll see!

I probably look like a stereotypical chubby aspie female with no make-up and no hairstyle and glasses. Sorry for letting the side down. I think I'll go and barf up my tea and raid Urban Outfitters.

This thread is BS. Who's to say ''NTs are attractive and Aspies aren't''? Like, WTF??? That is the biggest, offensive stereotypical BS I've ever heard in my entire life, for crying out loud.

It might well be that if there is a connection,
it is because those with Aspergers often have a very hard time doing things they don't see the logical point in doing-
starving oneself thin,
ripping out your body hair,
and painting your face up to look like a birthday cake
for no better reason than those aesthetics are popular at the moment
definitely qualifies, in my view.
(Those apply more to women, obviously. :D)

It would thus seem to me that depictions of a person who is supposed to be inept in some way
would therefore necessarily trend toward someone who LOOKS unkempt.
After all, what demonstrates absent-mindedness more than someone who doesn't worship the all-mighty uniform aesthetic?

I'm naturally good looking but i think all these things have contributed at some point in my past to make me less so. Kind of sad really. :(

Yeah, that is weird. I haven't heard that one much.... actually, I've heard more of the "Aspies are unusually good-looking" generalization, which was mentioned in the book "Loving Mr. Spock" (a misleadingly-titled book that I hated and couldn't finish, but it did have a few good points about Aspies in it).

If Aspies do have a tendency toward being unusually pretty, it may be because we tend to look young for our age. I'm turning 30 this year, and I look as if I'm in my early 20's. Every Aspie I know looks young. It may be genetic, but it also may be caused by our tendency toward not going out in the sun much, not smoking, and not wrinkling up our faces by faking facial expressions all the time.
