I just realized that a guy was probably trying to hit on me. like, he was staring into my eyes and doing a slow strip-tease thing.

this happened 13 years ago. I JUST NOW realized what signal he was trying to send. *headdesk*

Having my legs waxed and realising afterwards that my social skills are still abysmal with people who are most consummately NT. I can't react quickly enough to make normal conversation and end up saying stupid, childish things.
I embarrassed myself. I'm sure she thought I was a feckin weirdo.

It kind pushes me towards despair, sometimes. :(

Having my first therapy assessment yesterday. The lady was nice but I was in full Aspie mode for some reason. Eye contact was nearly impossible and I rocked very slightly, and generally just acted and felt very awkward.

Was at the mall with my son and I was waiting for the elevator. I paced back and forth and tapping my head and I felt the need to skip and hop but I didn't because I didn't want to look goofy and draw any attention so I held those two in and didn't do them except for the other two. I bet if my mother were with, I would have just stood still holding it all in because I don't want to act that way in front of her and I want to be normal around her. I would probably be doing something else instead of pacing and tapping my head. More like play with my hands or twirl my hair.

Walking down the street with my hands covering my ears. Unrelated to autism. Because my ears were cold.

Fancy some hot chocolate? :)

Mine was just now. I had an issue with figurative language.

I get this kind of delayed reaction all the time as well, mostly where I suddenly realise someone said something nasty to me in an underhand way without me picking up on it. Then I get angry far too late

Delayed reaction is a part of autism in general

Today I was Driving while people in my vehicle were talking loudly. I almost had to pull over to ask them to, "shhh", but then one of them noticed I was getting freaked out and quieted them down.

I don't know if this counts as a delayed reaction but sometimes after something happens, I realize all the signs I missed and now all of a sudden it's all obvious and how could I have missed them before?

At work on Friday my boss and I were getting the thrift store ready for a pre-Xmas "open house" on Satuday (we are normally closed on Saturday) and she mentioned to a customer that there would be cookies and apple cider. a few seconds later she looked at me and said "I know what you are thinking, it isn't THAT kind of cider", meaning hard cider, and I'm like "OMG, how did you read my mind like that, Andrea??? 8O ", and she says "I could see it in your eyes! ". And then I go "You can tell what I'm thinking by my EYES??? Ok, that's creepy!! !".

We were opening presents this morning and my husband and I get a couple gift cards. I say I like gift cards better and my husband and mom started laughing. I asked them what was so funny and they said I did a Beth thing, so brutally honest.

My husband knew I did not mean to imply what I implied and I meant what I said in a literal way.

1) Flapping my hands as a partial reaction to tasting something that turned out to be nasty.

2) Noting that the camel my mother drew a picture of was actually not a camel at all but a dromedary because it had two humps rather than the camel's one.

My dad (who very well might have ASD) did the same thing to me when I came back from Rome. He's really hard to buy for, so finally as a joke I got him a little gladiator statue. He politely thanked me. Then I showed him the clock I'd gotten for myself, and he said, "You should've gotten me that!"

I recently went to a restaurant called "Real Seafood Company". I asked my dad why they expected us to get all excited that their seafood was real--did they think there was a problem with fake seafood? He explained that "real" meant "good". I still think it's a stupid name.

Dinner tonight.

My father served up meatballs that had dried apricots in them.

I do not eat meat with fruit. Ever. So I've had nothing to eat tonight.

My boyfriend is coming to stay today, so I ordered some food online and got it delivered. I forwarded him the email confirming my order which said what food I'd ordered. He said it was really sweet, in a wonderfully Aspie way. I'm not entirely sure why that was sweet, I thought it was just practical.
