This has been said before, but why do we need to tell anyone whether we are diagnosed or not? I wish this option were available in the profle section: My diagnosis is private.

I think that's this thread's purpose as well.

Precisely: Troll Trap. This topic SHOULD be stickied just to help to define the word "troll."

If you are having meltdowns over a innocuous sound, then you have bigger problems than Asperger's. Not even low-functioning autistics have meltdowns over innocuous sounds. Perhaps you should offer yourself up to research. The scientific community would be fascinated.

This is the last I will ever post to this thread. I find it revolving and I will throw up now.

Most over diagnosed psychiatric disorder on the planet. Self diagnosis get out of here. You have more credentials than a qualified psychiatrist with 10 years + of medical school training + years of field training? How can the average person possibly self diagnose themselves after reading a few paragraphs on Wikipedia?

The internat age and the growing epidemic of self diagnosed psychiatric disorders. The leading one of them is Aspergers Syndrome.

Self Diagnoses must be avoided. Who wants a label which may not be true?

I just LOVE your assumption that anyone who's self diagnosed did it with no more thought or care than a few minutes of reading Wikipedia.

There are plenty of people who self diagnosed and were correct. Ask Millie, for instance. Actually don't, she's a nice, cerebral and gentle person and you'd probably just be an ass to her.

I'm going to guess at least 90% of the as*holes here are neurotypical.

Simple test. Have you ever had a meltdown because of a random innocuous light or sound?

No?

Then go f**k yourself.

Also, guess what? If it was diagnosed and the answer to the above question is "no," whoever provided the diagnosis is a quack, so tell him he's a f**** for me.

Fullblown autistic meltdown no, headache, tearing eyes, irritability and aggression, sure.

DSM-V = no more Aspergers Syndrome. Aspergers Syndrome will no longer be considered a disorder. Aspergers Syndrome is just high functioning autism and it needs to be diagnosed by a trained psychiatrist.

And when/if that happens it won't change one thing in my life.

Okay, let me break my promise only to say that this is the absolute LAST time I will post to this thread (which really should be promptly removed by the admin).

I present irrefutable proof that Aspie19828 is a troll. This is his post from the "You might be an Aspie if..." thread:

You may be an aspie if you can not work in a team and have no communication skills.
You may be an aspie if you have flat feet which makes physical work hard.
You may be an aspie if you have never worked a day in your life.
You may be an aspie if you are a member of Generation Y born between 1978 to 1992.
You may be an aspie if you are looking for a government handout or a high paying job that requires you doing nothing.
You may be an aspie if you are lazy and stupid.
You may be an aspie if you are a genius and have a photographic memory.

Also, if we look at his diagnostic status, we find, "Not sure if I have it or not." Great expert.

So, I urge you to ignore this troll. He deserves no further attention. Please leave him alone to shout in the wilderness.

They might have it, they might not. Same with the diagnosed people, though the rate of misdiagnosis is quite low for those diagnosed with it.

There'll be a brain scan for it soon enough, unless of course there's nothing actually "wrong" in the brain, and current society just doesn't fit the behavioral pattern of a certain subset of human behavior, that people call autism.

Anyway, the diagnostic criteria are written, and will be written, to catch people who're having actual trouble adapting to society, and that's the point of such (their words).

You're a little young to be making such statements. You'll likely piss a bunch of people off.

IMO, if you come to WP and finally feel like you're on the right planet, you have diagnosed yourself. As others have mentioned, doctors don't necessarily know more than we do.

Anyway, who would WANT to label themselves as a social misfit?

That was my response on a few posts as well. It is not a sexy disability. You don't even get drugs, and the title of aspergers gives you little if any (respect??). If the shoe fits wear it, and if you have finally found some place you belong.

Welcome.

Agreed.

He seems to only come here to rant and unload bitterness. Expressing pent up emotion is one thing but he has no right to lash out at people like that.

Are you serious? That thread is a JOKE thread to begin with.

I'm starting to remember why I don't come here anymore.

I went to a professional for ages and he never said I was AS because it just wasn't in his training, although he did spot the
high sensitivity. He was all psychology, but AS is neurology. Now I should pay a small fortune so another similarly qualified can say I am AS? And in 10 years something else? Reminds me of my compulsory extra expensive "lifetime" driver's license that I now have to renew every few years.
