I'm told that all the time, and I'm happy about it now at age 44! I find that most people who are in their 20s and 30s, think I'm late 20s/early 30s, while people who are over 65, think I might be 18 or 20.

Here's a recent picture:

Not that many people have commented, but the ones who have have told me I look a couple of years older than I am. I'm not sure if they go by my look, or how I come across to them.

Even though it's a while back, I'll comment on the original question. I think it is true that many look younger than they are, and going back through the thread, many tend to agree.

Nowadays I do appear somewhat younger, but used to look older when I was like 10-14.

I've always looked younger than I am. Nobody has ever guessed my age to be higher than 14 based on my appearance. When I actually was 14, I looked like I was 11 or 12. Then, when they hear me tell them that they're wrong, their second guess is always that I'm at least 18 based on my deep voice, which I've had since I was 14. It can be frustrating sometimes.

I read on a forum once that someone thought it was because we use our facial muscles less. This makes us look younger because obviously, we won't get the same lines and creases in our face, that most people get by our age. I don't know if this is true but it makes sense to me....

At first I thought the above might be the case but usually if it is just someone's face looking younger their hands look their real age. For me my hands look like the hands of someone much younger as does my face. The same is true for the rest of my body. The only thing that doesn't is my hair which started showing grey when I was 18 which I am pretty sure is earlier than is normal. It wasn't noticeable as I am naturally ash blonde.

An interesting topic, gillkz. I shall take the time to give my input on this.

As an individual with Asperger Syndrome, I have been informed on numerous occasions that my physical characteristics render me looking younger compared to that of my biological age. Some individuals, upon informing them of my real age for the first time, were flabbergasted. However, these physical properties tend to be rather dominant within my family, so that may hold some contribution to the matter.

I have noticed a great degree of those with Asperger's to appear younger in comparison to others of their age. Additionally, I have also noticed that they do not tend to consume alcoholic beverages or tobacco. (As I don't.) - So your theory definitely holds some structure here.

As with autistics, I have only noticed this amongst a few of those that I did associate with that had the condition. I have known some autistic individuals whom appeared a few years older than what they are, some that appeared as their age, and some that appeared younger.

I'm formally diagnosed with AS. Strangers, as well as people who do not know me very well, keep asking me what I want to be "when I grow up". Whenever I happen to be standing by a smoker, the smoker will say, "you've gotta wait until you're 18 to have a cig, man" (and I don't even smoke), even though I'm old enough to buy alcohol. So it seems to me that others think I look younger than I actually am.

I've actually always looked older...
When I was 12/13 people thought I was 17 & I'm 16 now and most people think I'm 18/19

It seems like a lot of people with AS look younger, but not everyone. There is no aspie trait that every single person with AS has.

However, I am 16 and look about 13 or 14. It's interesting because when I was 11 or 12, I look older, but now, I look younger.

When I was seven, I apparently looked seventeen. Not physically, but something in my eyes. Now I'm 21 and get mistaken for someone in the 30-40 range.

. . .

I don't really know.

I think it's about having an aura of childlike innocence

A lot of older women seem to be attracted to it but they don't know whether they want to mother me or have sex with me

Yep; had those experiences too. I remember when I was 18 and started college, people on the city bus telling me that I looked about TEN and could not POSSIBLY be in college. Anyway, now I'm 35 and glad to be able to pass for early 20s at times. I still got carded when into the casinos on a trip to Vegas a couple of years ago.

it was the same for me till I became stupid enough that I started to smoke cigarettes. then I went from looking at least seven years younger to looking at least five years if not older. and I only did cigs for about three months.
I miss looking younger than my age.
I look more like 57 and not my natural 50
