I still am wondering why all of a sudden people are hating on the onion. They have gone too far now that they did a satire on Autism? Where was the outcry with their other satirical articles?

My point is the onion has always done satirical articles that are funny and offensive, usually both at the same time and if you dont like that kind of humor why are you even going there in the first place?

The general opinion of the Onion here is that you're not worthy if you HAVEN'T been flamed by them.

That said, most people are ok with it, the few that aren't need to understand that the Onion does not insult autistics because they dislike them. They insult autistics because they insult EVERY demographic equally and without prejudice. The fact that the autistic community HAS been skewered by this means that our plight is at least note-worthy. And there'll probably be a satirical article about Autism Speaks a few months from now. It's what the Onion does. They'll insult Jews one day only to offend Christians the next, and inflame Muslims the day after that. Equal opportunity insult. No one group is getting the short end of the stick.

The OP doesn't have Asperger's. His kid has it, though.

I've noticed that parents of autistic kids tend to get more offended than people who actually have it.

Well, the story finally made my Facebook feed; the offended comments, as one might project from the above, are indeed almost entirely from parents of autistic children. They proclaimed that they had superior right to comment, because of their kids. I told them that I had superior right to laugh my tail off at it, because they might be the parents of autistics, but I'm not just a parent of one, I ARE one!

That actually made me laugh, lol obviously its a bit exagerrated but I can certainly relate to being completly oblivious and saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.
