When I was young:
Dolphins, Pokémon, Disney.

Now:
Names, their origin and etymology. Conspiracy theories.

I had an special interest in names for a long time as a child. Now when I meet a person (with a relatively common name for Canada) I think about what their name means and it's language of origin! Sometimes I tell people what their names mean.

Warfare. Any era, any technology, fictional or historical. Just warfare. I'm interested in any film, novel, video game, or work of art that involves large masses of people killing other large masses of people in the name of King, Country, God, etc. It doesn't matter.

I understand the immorality of war and I'm certainly not a warmonger. I'm not interested in being a soldier in today's era. (With my luck I'd end up stacking crates in Korea rather than being in combat.)

War has been my special interest all of my life. I've been particularly interested in WWI era Trench Warfare for the last couple years.

Supposedly watching the weather channel for 2-3+ hours a day is supposed to be somewhat stereotypical of being on the spectrum. Used to do that when I was around 7, mentioned it on these forums one day and a bunch of people started telling me they used to do the exact same thing.

I've never been interested in Pokemon, but I think it's the most common special interest for Aspies.

How is science not on that list?

Usually I alternate between interest in astronomy, physics (classical/particle), neuroscience, science fiction, the air force, creative writing (sci-fi - OK this is my constant interest), drawing/painting and I listen to music everyday and get more into it when I go to concerts with friends.

I might develop a new interest after researching for my novel. Currently, that involves video games.

Usually, it's pharmaceuticals (in particular, those to do with psychiatry) and chemistry in general, and Nintendo handheld consoles, which I never play on, but have an extensive collection of.

I own the Game Boy Original, the Pocket, 3 Colors, 2 Advances (one in original packaging! :D), 2 Advance SPs, a DS, and a DS Lite. And a Gamecube.

And I collect Pokemon games. I have Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Diamond and Black. And Colosseum, on the 'Cube. Not a single one has been completed, or even been anywhere near completion. I just like owning the games

I also sometimes have times where I go through phases of researching particle and quantum physics, or trains (those in my local area, and the Underground subsurface stock.) And Underground lines.

Aaaand psychiatric disorders. I research those a lot.

I also love animals, in particular canines.
But from birth, until I was roughly 12-13 years old, it was cats. Constantly cats. And I didn't realise it was that common until finding this thread.
I still have my cat memorabilia and books from back then. And my extended family haven't been informed of my loss of interest in felines. So I still get cat-related stuff in the post for birthdays/Christmas.

Sorry for rambling.
Also, this is my first post on the forums~ :)

I voted "other". There was no poll option for video games.

I voted other. My favorite hobby is surfing, but I also love reading technical info on the environment and the ocean.

Meerkats, manatees, Lion King, Sonic... all my my obsessions have always been animal related. Can't think of an obsession that wasn't.

My special interest is with movies. If there is a specific movie I get stuck on, I want to know the facts about it and the details. I am also interested in abandoned places.

My past special interests has been with London and Spokane, video games, Dalmatians. The Legend of Zelda.

Mine is old music from before I was born until 1989. It was at that point that music started to get a little too young for me. It's not just one group either. It might surprise you guys to see how many different groups and performers I listen to on YouTube.

I have lots of special interests. Probably my longest-lasting special interest is in the anime series Sailor Moon. I currently own seasons one, two, three, and five in DVD box sets, as well as various manga volumes (though I have seen all 200 episodes of the series thanks to Youtube). I've been obsessed with that show since I was about six years old.

Some other special interests of mine are imagining alternate realities for myself, or even imagining myself as an entirely different person living in a different time period. It's fun to imagine various scenarios of what my alter ego would go through in life. One common trait I've given all my alter egos is the ability to speak her mind freely and assert herself, a trait which I am currently lacking. I like to imagine my alter egos as being practically the polar opposite of myself and therefore better adept at dealing with life.

Also, I like studying the evolution of women's fashion over the course of the last millennium. Slightly related to that would be my liking to study the evolution of sex appeal over the centuries.

I have a whole plethora of other interests pertaining to the areas of science and social studies. I won't get into that, though.
