Terrible at math, to the point of being in special ed in school
I'm not clumsy.
I don't have a routine...for anything.
I've also won awards in communication for public speaking. (Just got a perfect grade on one I thought I'd bombed, actually.)
My voice and face are very expressive.
Not hypersensitive to smell and taste- the exact opposite.
Have no problem identifying and talking about emotions.

I can make eye contact.
I have never stimmed.
I am very articulate and express myself well in person.
I don't have any issues with body language or any non-verbal behaviours.
I read non-verbal behaviours very well and am able to get inferences/implied messages in social situations.
I had obvious sensory issues when little, but they faded completely by the middle of high school.
I have a solid sense of social tact and know what would be considered bothersome, irritating, or rude by other people.
I know what topics are appropriate in conversation, and can adjust conversations depending on the person and setting.
I can do small talk well, and even enjoy it sometimes.
I have strong interests, but rarely share them with others.
I understand sarcasm and even use it quite a lot (though I avoid it around people on the spectrum)
When I get "stuck" on an idea or topic, I will know it and stop myself.
I focus on the other person in my relationships instead of making things all about me.
The vast majority of my friendships are NT, and I have a few solid friendships that will be with me for life.
I have immense empathy.
I care way too much about how people percieve me to the point where I would consider it a fixation.

Given a “tentative” diagnosis as a child as I needed services at school for what was later correctly discovered to be a major anxiety disorder.
This misdiagnosis caused me significant stress, which lessened upon finding out the truth about myself from my current and past long-term therapists - that I am an anxious and highly sensitive person but do not have an autism spectrum disorder.
My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.
I can relate well to others
I can write neat on paper on pencil
I had a circle of friends in high school that tried to take care of me
I make eye contact sometimes
I was in cadets
Have a will to do more positive things such as learning to drive a manual transmission vehicle something that even some NT cannot do.
2. I'm independent.
3. I can make eye contact (I just don't often want to).
4. I can make small talk (I just don't often want to).
5. I'm a woman.
6. I am very much not a fussy eater.
7. I don't stick to routines.
8. My theory of mind isn't actually much worse than an NTs.
9. No ADHD or dyslexia.
10. I like perfume.
I thought dyslexia wasn't common in ASD individuals?
I don't talk like a robot.
I can smile. When I'm happy I smile a lot.
I don't take things literally and I usually understand and use sarcasm.
I can't keep routines.
I'm not hypersensitive to smell. I can hardly smell anything.
I can tolerate crowds.
I'm not a genius.
I'm straight and I'm not asexual.

No ADHD or dyslexia. Just Aspie. (There's a stereotype for Aspies having ADHD or dyslexia?!)
Good with public speaking, and have even made speech finals.
Messy room nearly all the time.
Female. (Since when are all Aspies male?!)
Am not a nerd. Except for being socially awkward and intelligent.
Can express emotion. Sometimes.

ASPERGERS = Awesome Smart Pleasant Excelling Rare Gorgeous Enchanting Reliable Super
Diagnosed Asperger's aged 5 and a half
- I suck at and hate math
- I have never hand flapped (although I think I'm more of a finger tapping/beat boxing stimmer)
- I have a good sense of humor (sarcastic/blunt/dry style) People are always saying how funny I can be at times even if I'm not really trying to be.
- Good at finding symbolism in things
- I can make eye contact if I want to, but I usually don't want to.
- Can understand sarcasm

- I'm not overweight. (anymore)
- Huge imagination
- I love cologne/perfume. My collection could probably fund a small 3rd world country
- I love being around people, think about people a lot, and generally prefer to socialize instead of staying at home by myself (unless I can engage in my special interest while at home)
- I love taking risks, doing outrageous stuff, and getting adrenaline rushes
- I am deeply emotional and am very emotionally sensitive
- I smile a lot at people because I tend to be happy around people
- I am not a geek/nerd
- I generally make sure that I look nice and proper in public; I am not sloppy appearance-wise
- I generally don't have difficulty talking on the phone, although I do prefer face-to-face
- I love performing/public speaking/anything else I can do in front of people - it's another adrenaline rush thing for me
- I have no comorbids
- I can write very neatly (it strains my hand, though)
- My thinking is very abstract
- I don't have much gross motor skill difficulty
- I don't have a photographic memory, but I do remember many random details
- I'm a girl

I find this really interesting....I read somewhere that 20% of Aspies lose their symptoms by adulthood, does anyone think there may be some truth to this?
My little firecracker certainly has enough symptoms otherwise he wouldn't have been diagnosed but he does fly in the face of some of the cliches:
He sleeps like a log
He has a cracking sense of humour
He doesn't speak in monotones
Could care less about trains (Sonic is a different story)
The vacuum cleaner doesn't bother him
Wears almost anything (except any shoes that expose his feet which is tricky in Australia)
Can (but but doesn't always) write very neatly in different fonts (from Word)
Mess doesn't bother him at all (that could be because he is, after all, a 4 year old boy
He doesn't react to change in plans provided it isn't something he was looking forward to (then we get a good old fashioned tantrum)
He often asks for a kiss and cuddle
Is OK in shops and crowds (unless he is internalising it all - is this possible?)
He can lie like nobody's business
My son has been described as extremely 'tolerant' of many situations that others would not - given he is so young, is it likely to remain this way or could it change?
Thanks
I love this topic.
I -
am female

Although, like many of my AS peers, I-
am overweight
am severely dyslexic
am mildly ataxic
struggle with small talk
don't like to socialise more than a couple of times a week
Have sensory issues i.e can't have tags in my clothes
when I'm not laughing, I look 'gloomy'
Have a strict no eye contact policy
don't like 'background noise'
experience anxiety symptoms
was epileptic

the trials and tribulations of a girl pretending to be normal
Let me see...
(Does "being female" count?)
I don't have many sensory issues. I need my clothes to be comfortable, especially my underwear. But other than that, I can listen to loud music (in fact, i love it), I don't have a heightened sense of smell, I don't have problems with bright colours. I'm not even nervous when I'm in the crowd- as long as people don't interact with me.
I'm fairly good with the non-verbal language. I roll my eyes and have other facial expressions. I don't talk in a monotone voice. However, this non-verbal language is often wrong (or so people say): I talk either too fast or too quietly, I don't maintain the eye contact the right way, etc. So I'd say I do have some inherent body language signs, but they aren't always right or interpreted the right way.
I empathize with everyone and everything.
I'm imaginative and I love books, movies, etc. I write. I can put myself into character's shoes and I can understand them. This doesn't happen in real life. I can't understand real people.
I understand jokes, but what I often find funny others don't. I find absurd extremely funny. People say I have "male sense of humor", whatever that means. I also get sarcasm and I use it. Though I'm not always sure if people are being sarcastic (I often take them literally).
I think sometimes the way AS is depicted on the television is overly exaggerated, For instance I don't talk like a robot, I'm not that good at maths (but I like a good puzzle) and I don't really like reading, I can make eye contact (although I do have trouble with it), I'm not obsessed with trains ( I like bikes), and I'm not to bothered about science fiction. I wasn't aware being fat was a trait but I'm not anyway, and as for sarcasm, well I do get it but I'm not that keen on it especially when it's used to put someone down. I'd rather people say what they mean and that's not because I can't lie (because I can).
I use sarcasm and have a sense of humor
I suck at math
I am not good with computers
I am not an artist
I am not a savant
I like fiction
I did pretend play
I had friends
I wanted friends
I played with other kids
I smile
I laugh
I don't talk like a robot
I don't do monologues (I have before)
I don't talk non stop about my obsessions (I had before)
I don't do black and white thinking (I used to but sometimes I wonder if I never was and that was just my literal thinking and me trying to be a perfectionist and being too sensitive)
I don't have above normal hearing
I can rarely feel tags in my shirts and I can't feel any seams in my clothes
I have TOM
I can have normal conversations
I like good surprises
I did sports
I can do eye contact
I am not overweight
I am not ugly
I can read between the lines (not all the time)
I have an imagination
I am not into science or fixing things or inventing
I don't mind crowds and I ignore them
I'm female
I'm flexible
I don't have very narrow interests eg, focusing for hours on objects and knowing lots about them
I was invited to birthday parties as a kid and enjoyed them
I can do things spontaneously but that depends
I wear jeans and different sorts of clothing
I don't collect things on my special interests
I shower and like to be clean
I can be an abstract thinker
AS stereotypes I do/did have:
I didn't get jokes as a kid nor had humor (though I did teasing and liked provoking people)
I had no TOM
I take things literal
I engaged in B&W thinking
I was sensitive to criticism
I used to tell people they were fat
I was a perfectionist
Not good in social situations
I tend to be too honest
My finger is longer than my index finger
My voice is monotone sometimes
I have a hard time expressing myself emotionally
I am not good in relationships
I have a hard time reading non verbal cues and body language
I have learning difficulties and ADD
I have anxiety and obsessive thinking
I stim like rock my body or pace
I'm a gray a (between asexual and sexual)
I can do the same routines over and over and not get bored with it
I'm an atheist
I was inflexible as a kid, everything had to be my way or I would get anxiety and get upset
My memory is poor and good in other things
I'm on the computer all the time (this seems so common in aspies)
I eat the same foods
I suck at making friends and keeping them
I suck at giving emotional support and I tend to be logical
I sniff and touch things, sensory seeking (though I can control it, I just don't do it where there is people unless I don't care)
I have intense obsessions and sometimes they get in the way and make me a bad mother
I had my own birthday party when I was nine and hated it.
Aunt gave me a baby shower and I got a little overwhelmed because eight people was a lot too for me and good thing lot of people didn't show up, I can't take being in the center of attention and having everyone talking all at once and things being all chaotic when it's about me
I may have social anxiety (also common in aspies)
I used to have meltdowns all the time
I was only invited to three sleepovers as a kid, twice when I was 12 and once when I was 17
I had a hard time with friends growing up, was fine at my house but at their house I had troubles
When I get stuck on a topic, I have a hard time letting it go even though i can stop talking about it
I had OCD (I was obsessed with cleaning and wanted everything perfect and my family refused to have thier house look like something out of a Home and Garden magazine, I even was obsessed about being clean too and had germ phobia and dirt phobia)
I have a hard time with being spontaneous
I procrastinate
I have interia
I have a hard time with shifting my mind from something onto something else like I am onj the computer and then my husband interrupts me and I get irritable and have a hard time focusing on what he is saying or what he wants me to do
I interrupt (I try not to)
I avoid eye contact
I sometimes have a hard time with conversations
I don't wear make up
I hated jeans as a kid
I hate talking on phones
I have sleeping problems (off and on my whole life)
I have sensory issues (mild)
I prefer a routine and I function better if I have one
Too much change overwhelms me
I'm a concrete and literal thinker
My son is 8 and has been diagnosed with AS, I am fed up with bigots and Aspie steriotyping.
He is very able and does not line things up nor collect things. He does not have obsessions (until recently, with Mario!)
The thing that throws people is that he is the biggest attention seeker ever and craves social approval..he just gets it wrong.
I just read Russel Brands book (my booky wook) and realised my son is just like him!
