Verdani: It was interpreted that way... When I countered by pointing out that there is outright hostility and aggression (that I jokingly termed macro-aggression), it was interpreted by a specific member as passive aggressive behavior towards them due to a disagreement earlier today... For that, I am sorry...

I have yet to determine who you were having a conversation with since you did not address anyone.

Just in case you think my comment had anything to do with what you said in your comment, be assured I was not engaging you with my comment.

If I engage people directly I either quote them or address them by name.

My comment was based on what I have generally and scientifically observed associated with this unusual and not well defined Autism Community coined term Neurotypical since I have been associated with online Autism communities in the last two and a half years.

In that case you misunderstood my communication, because it had nothing to do with you.

Now I am really confused... lol... you quoted my message... and said "If I engage people directly I either quote them or address them by name. " So... I assumed that it was directed at me since it was my comment and no other name was given.

I tend to take statements literally. Looking at your comment I see a colon and the name aghogday before a colon. In an attempt to "read you mind" now I am assuming you meant the name Verdandi instead of Aghogday before a colon. In that case it makes sense to me.

I'm not quite sure why you could not have said Verdandi if that is what you meant, but that is okay, we all communicate differently. :)

This is what I was responding to I posted something to nessa... then you quoted me and said some things... So... I had assumed it was to me...

Somehow...lol... lines got crossed... who were you addressing with the above text?

Snark noted. For the record. I never said that...I said you weren't making yourself understood... Huge difference

This was the quote I was not sure who were addressing as there was initially no context provided, and looking over the discussion again, it appears to me as to have been directed at Nessa, per something that happened earlier among you two, and additionally per your clarification here in this post.

I see now that you acknowledge you made the passing comment about snark directed at Nessa, and the statement that you said that was not about him was in regard to Macroagressions.

My misunderstanding was that you were suggesting the comment quoted above about snark was not about Nessa, which was confusing to me because you said you noted it. But now I see you were talking about two separate comments. Thanks in helping figure out were I was misunderstanding you. :)

I hadn't changed my mind about my interpretation, I was offering my interpretation of what I read. I am sorry for not being as clear as I could have been.

If you're including me in that, it doesn't make any difference. Society is run by NT's, it's laws, cultures and norms are by and for NT's, so the science or statistics of it doesn't come into it.

That's just pointless semantics.

Yes... And No... There is no medical definition for Neurotypical. BUT we use the word to apply to NORMAL people... and there is a definition in the dictionary for that.
Quote:
normal - adj.;
a : of, relating to, or characterized by average intelligence or development
b : free from mental disorder : sane
c : characterized by balanced well-integrated functioning of the organism as a whole

And it is the way of nature...in the wild, when dealing with social creatures, those that demonstrate deviant behaviors are either shunned or killed.... NTs, being the social creatures that they are... do the exact same thing... Unlike those that have the same neurological function, the shunned get it... and fall into line, making another baseline NORMAL person... Since we don't get the nuances of the social behaviors... we end up farther and farther out of the circles...

I think that is why we end up so angry, for the most part... at least a large part of it...

But, to a certain extent... Society = NT... because they run society

To add to Feralucce's point, there's the concept of the "unmarked default category." The default category is often positioned as "normal" while those who don't fit that category are positioned as exceptions, as weird, as undesirable, etc.

By marking the "default" category in the same way as other categories are marked, it puts them on a more level (ontologically) playing field by saying that there is no default, these are two or more different ways to be that are equally valid. That's one of the purposes for the "neurotypical" label.

Agreed... Though, our reasoning was more knee jerk than that, as well... they had the term... NORMAL... and most Aspie disagree with them owning that label...

Personally...I like being a soup can (that one's subtle)
