I an sick of hearing, "You can't be Autistic, you must be Asperger's." First of all, the grammar Nazi in me gets angry because the correct verb is have, not be. If you want to use the verb "be" in that sentence, then you must say Aspergian, not Asperger's.
lol yeah, whenever I see a claim or question that someone is Asperger, I have to restrain myself not to comment: "Well, what is their name?" It's such an unnecessary mistake to make.
Maybe they also are dyslexia!

Come on, don't be sense. You know darn well that women higher their voice pitch for the benefit of men without having to think about it. It doesn't have to be a man they are interested in. Women still do this.

I can only think of one woman that I've seen doing this in real life. Maybe it's a culture thing? 'Cause she wasn't originally from around here where I'm from...

The irony is that any child (NT or aspie) who got past grade school could answer that question in a heartbeat: 31,400. Just move the decimal points over. The guy who asked you that question was not only ignorant about autism, he was obviously a stupid dumb cluck about Everything..including arithmetic.

A "Rain Man question" would be something like "what day of the week was June first 1066 AD?" that takes real mentally gymnastic calculation.

That we have no empathy. I hate that stereotype.

Honestly, I wish the whole 'spectrum' metaphor hadn't been dreamed up; I'm convinced it has done more harm than good.

This is what I saw regarding the spectrum, and I think it makes sense:

I have a probably-aspie friend who's gotten a kick out of lying to people, and she's pretty good at it.
I know I'm capable of lying, but I feel absolutely awful if I knowingly mislead someone, like one might feel about intentionally misspelling someone's tattoo.

:p That's just a question of whether you know five digits of pi.

One that really "irks" me is whenever someone tells me
" You don't look like you have Autism "

That still gets under my skin

I keep coming across a strange one, some people seem to think that only "Low functioning" autistic people stim.

The idea that "high functioning" autistic people are just slightly odd and smart.

The idea that "low functioning" autistic people are stupid, can never talk, can't use a computer, are 24/7 in meltdown, and the like.

That autism is caused by bad parenting.

The idea that we want person first language.

That autism ruins families.

That all autistic people are angels, I've meant some absolute jerks who are autistic, including some that are big in the community.

That all autistic people are unfeeling jerks.

The idea that all/most autistic people are liberal, this is even common among advocacy groups.

Thanks for the link - that gets across how "multi-dimensional" the diversity of autism is in a really easy to understand way. Definitely one I will be sharing! :D
