What does "chips on shoulder" mean?

I have a mental image of some chips on a person's shoulder and I know that it's not right.

Sorta when you have certain things that bother you, like stuff associated with past experiences and such...that effect your perceptions on life in general. For instance you might be bitter about certain things, or skeptical because of having a hard time moving past it. For instance I got bullied a lot as a kid so sometimes I end up seeing things through a lense of being afraid of repeats of those experiences, so I might fear a social interaction that I have no reason to think should go bad because of those past experiences. If that makes any sense.

was going to say: if you got a chip on your shoulder, basically you're always irate, irritable, holding a grudge, cruisin' for a bruisin', etc. wronged in some way or other, may have to do with personal experience as stated above ^

m8, try reading the last 3 pages again.

It was about chips. Mostly the potato kind. Well while we're on the subject, my favourite chips are thin french fries sprinkled with plenty of salt. If you get ketchup anywhere near my nice hot fries, I really will have a meltdown.

Edit: Wut? Where did the water come from? I'm not keeping up...
