Could they range block the whole country that these spam attacks are originating from?
At least restrict new posters in their ability to create threads, you should have to post in the introduction forum before being able to post on the rest of the forum.

This is the reason. We've been pretty good at catching the spam and we had stopped it for a while but this is definitely the worst it has been. I live on the west coast so when I woke up at 7:30am I immediately got rid of everything.
Apart from that, I still like the idea of blocking whole IPs who are the likely culprits for spam. When spammers are forced to buy IP addresses by the score, it should get tedious, and cut into their bottom line, if they wish to pursue such activities.
I've spoken about a possile idea of IP's being used on multiple shared servers caused by one shared I.P. Nobody knows what it is, but apparently this is just a misconception and the filter blocks can be activated by a user as well as a site master if they're clever enough to a diagnose and debug the main culprit. Would a hacker be so clever as to stretch an evil spam attack on the network? only if it was shared imho. Looks like this was a possible reason Cloudfare was axed to begin with.
I'm positive bad cookies got into its CPU and bugged the script from there, but this place has some of the oldest archived threads I've ever seen. It needs more sensitive handling and a thorough site team to expand on its residentcy.
