If you get annoyed with people with a supposedly lower intellect you may indeed be bright, but you are carrying around a major character flaw.

Being smart isn't a free pass to be a jerk.

Getting annoyed doesn't make a person a jerk; otherwise everyone who ever lived is a jerk.

There are far more reasonable/valid reasons for being annoyed.

Can you give examples that don't arise from stupidity?

Wow. Are you saying anything firemonkey would come-up with, would be stupid?

I doubt he's that arrogant/ignorant.

I don't know about that----there's an awful lot of people on here, that think they're special.....

if i had to guess and place the emphasis where i think he was placing emphasis, it may help...

"Can you give examples that don't arise from stupidity?"

i.e: all annoyances for those of superior intellect arise from some form of stupidity, or other.

at least, that's how i read it. still arrogant, imho, but, whaddoo i know? *shrug*

One could be superior in philosophical knowledge---but downright stupid in the ways of the corporeal world.

I would get annoyed if a Nietzsche scholar did not get how the concept of Superman was distorted by the Nazis.

We get the backlash for all the times people didn't "get" our clever jokes at airport security, where any attempt at humour can ruin your day.

Most adults in this post 9-11 world have enough common sense to realize that airport security doesn't have the time to be bothered to deconstruct every wisecrack made by each and every one of the millions of immature snots who travel by air everyday. So most adults chose not to make wisecracks while going through airport security, and thus most adults never get hassled.

But apparently you flunked "Survival 101" , and actually have "made clever jokes at airport security", and further...you apparently have done it more than once! That means it took you several instances of hard knock schooling(administered by the airport constabulary) to learn what everyone else on the planet knows without needing any schooling at a all !

Yeah. You sure do have a crippling lack of common sense don't you, you silly thing!
That's story is hilarious!

So...funny true anectdotes aside...what were you talking about again?

Oh yeah!

Tolerating stupidity!

What was it you gonna say about tolerating stupidity, dude?

Ya mean like...tolerating the stupidity of going on business trip with a guy who mouths off to airport security and gets us both detained?

Yeah. If I had to travel with a guy like that I would feel like a martyr. You know...like Socrates,

Honestly, I'm surprised that you would post something this insensitive. Would you find it at all helpful if someone told you that there were more reasonable/valid reasons to feel anxious?

No ,of course not but you should be sensitive enough to know that people can't help being anxious, just as people can't help not being super brainy .

I would never get annoyed with someone for their anxiety or not being super brainy.

You'll have to explain that one to me. Are you talking about the comic book Superman?

Yeah, that don't arise from stupidity from within HIM (firemonkey). That's how I felt it could be taken----and, why I ASKED, before I chewed him, a new one (and then, of course, there's that pesky rule ["don't attack anyone"] that could get one banned, if they don't obey it - LOL).

^^^ that genuinely made me snigger LOL..."chew him a new one!

i just thought it was really unkind and insensitive to reference that thread that firemonkey had done in order to score points...it's why i made my post.

all this talk of "high intellect" v mere mortals and their "lesser intelligence"...saddens me. *channeling yoda* this is a strange place, it is.

A question for those who claim to have a high intellect and get annoyed with those they see as having a lower intellect: Would you get annoyed with a child/adult with Down's syndrome ?

I recommend to the OP that they join a high IQ society such that they have people on their level with whom they can converse.

Surely there are at least a few people in the world who truly are struggling with being smarter than most people they meet...

IMO, people who are struggling with something like that, are only thinking of THEMSELVES. If they would consider what others have said on here----like, that intelligence isn't everything, and that it's how you treat people, that is more important (that's not an exact quote)----then, they would be considering OTHERS; and that's what I feel people SHOULD be doing (considering others), at least, most of the time, that they're trying to engage with someone.

maybe what he means, is that these people struggle with not being able to see "eye to eye" with others they meet, due to many factors such as having vastly different priorities, different mannerisms of speaking, getting and holding attention, and not being able to relate with preferred topics of conversation....?

maybe it's not "i know so much more than all these people, i can't talk to them", but just simple communication barriers?

of course, there's rarely excuses to not work on them and get around them. i agree with what you say, but i'm not sure what exactly is meant by "intelligence" here.

Just to be totally fair to the OP , he only said he got annoyed , he never stated that he externalized it. I think the debate currently going ( which does appear to have subtext from some posters , I could be wrong ) on is a moot point and not relevant unless he actually acts annoyed.

What makes you think you are more intelligent than others? Why do you assume they have worse cognitive abilities?

That makes you arrogant, sorry but that is the case with you. Simply arrogant for drawing conclusions about other people.

In the case of getting annoyed, I would suggest you either adapt to it or find new people to spend your time with. Other people won't adapt to you and if you think that I'm wrong you are gonna be in for a surprise as you get older. :)

That's what I thought and had images of Christopher Reeves ( the only true Superman , not open to debate :P ) in his suit with a swastika instead of an 'S' ( I know it's not an 'S' )
