If you don't want to hear both kinds of music, (Country AND Western) just moving to Canada won't help. You also have to avoid the prairies.
Point well taken. To be fair, I really do love bluegrass [roots, folk] and classic country and western. Western Swing, like Dixieland Jazz, is one of the most woefully underappreciated forms of music. I thoroughly enjoy Hank Williams [Senior, period.], Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, the Darling Family, Bill Monroe, Patsy Cline, even the early work of Charlie Daniels, as well many other real, actual "country and western" artists. As renowned Americana music producer T. Bone Burnett once put it, "Modern country music is just watered down pop-rock with Hallmark greeting-card lyrics." It's now essentially just hillbilly rock-and-roll wrapped up in an American and/or confederate battle flag. Country artists used to sing about life and love and loss and the good things about the world around them. Now they just sing about playing around in the mud, promiscuity in pickup trucks, and how much they hate respecting women and other races in over-the-top screeching Southern accents. Really my annoyance yesterday came far more from what passes for local "culture" than the music itself, though most such music totally exemplifies the narrow modern southern perspective. Fun fact: the good old days weren't so good, and they weren't really that long ago either. Also, political correctness is simply being polite and respectful, which used to be an important part of how people in this part of the country were raised.

My last words before anesthesia were, after being asked how I was doing, "Never been better, this is the most fun I've had in YEARS!".
I knew I was in a really bad place in my life when I had surgery to get my tubes tied and the pre-surgical drugs made me feel happier than I had felt in years and years. I looked at the eyes of an attending nurse, and told her, "You have the most beautiful eyes."
I still remember that as a highlight of my life.
Seconded. I barely remember any other time in my life during which I felt more cared for and encouraged. Also, I have never had a flying dream before or since.
