unfortunately in my case the physical was accompanied by the mental/psychological.

Anways, as to the topic. I go the ADHD diagnosis over the course of a few years and mostly because I had attention control issues and stimulant medications helped. But, I probably would have been diagnosed earlier had OCD+ADHD been a permissible combination of diagnoses. And, I'd have had the AS diagnosis if it had been permissible to diagnose that alongside ADHD at the time.

Personally, it's been a bit of a challenge. I need the ADHD traits to balance out the OCD and ASD ones. The biggest challenge tends to be simplifying the things that i have to do, and keeping consistent in terms of work. I'm on track to be able to retire on time, if not a bit early, but it's purely because I figured out how to manage my money. I use 3 checking/debit accounts. 1 for guilt free spending. A second for general budget expenses and a third for anything that is either of those previous things, but that I expect to not be withdrawn for more than a day or two. It's essentially money that's already been spent, but that still appears to be available.

And, I break basically all of my expenses and income into weekly amounts, with any money that I'm not allowed to spend being hidden.

In general, I find that whenever I can make the traits do some useful work, it's a lot easier than trying to fight it. If I'm going to be out of sight out of existence anyways, I might as well use that to freak out over being broke well before the point where I'm in any real danger of not being able to pay my bills.

And, it's sort of like that throughout my life. I focus on making it easier to do the things that benefit me whenever I can, and make it less convenient to do things that cause problems. I use bins for most of my organization because I can mostly just toss related things into a bin and shuffle the bins as much as I like and things are still relatively organized. https://www.youtube.com/c/MidwestMagicCleaning has some pretty solid advice on how to organize for the ADHD set, and it's similar to what I do, just with stacks rather than bins. Both have pros and cons, I just like being able to quickly take inventory of what sorts of stuff I have, and be mostly packed if I need to move.

I fell in love with the school librarian. Nice looking young woman with long brown hair. Never gave me homework. Was always kind and willing to talk. Had ALL THOSE BOOKS. Knew things, was helpful. Like a little oasis in the hard cruel world of school. Probably doesn’t remember me at all.

The whole "driven by a motor" question seems really strange to me. I know it was brought up in this thread earlier, but still. It's an odd one.

I'm not really sure what drives me. I do fidget a lot but I wouldn't say that's like a motor. It's more of a nervous energy that has nowhere to go so it's just present like a natural rhythm or flow. I do hone it in a bit when I have to be professional.

Yet it's not like I'm bouncing around the room or anything.

When I was a kid, I had my nerves tested because of how much I shaked about. My nerves were fine, I just fidgeted a lot.

I still get told "You're so lanky because of all that fidgeting you know".

What does driven by a motor even mean? Hmm.

I left my laptop downstairs by mistake so I went down to get it.
I came back with a glass of water instead.
Then I remembered the laptop so I went back downstairs.
I came back with a second glass of water instead.

There were four full glasses of water upstairs before I got the laptop.
I kept forgetting what I was doing.
I kept forgetting to drink the water too, tol.

Diagnosed and put on medication for ADHD at age 6.

Right now, I feel like I coexist with my ADHD. When medicated (Lisdexamfetamine Dimesylate, or Vyvanse, the generic name.), I definitely feel like I have more control.
When not medicated, my ADHD is more noticeable, to both me and others around me.

Back when I was little, the hyperactive and inattentive qualities of my ADHD were more evident, but I was also a very energetic kid.

I think my ADHD grew as I grew. It changed, as I changed.

I can’t say much for my medication (Adderall) back then, as I was on too high a dose for about 5 years. If you want to hear more about that, ask away, I remember well.

I'm kinda jealous. I've yet to find a high enough therapeutic dose to be effective and as much as I tried I've never really been able to use amphetamines recreationally since that dose would need to be higher still.

Interesting. Yeah finding the right dose of meds is really tricky. Right now my ADHD meds are at 10 mg, figured it out after snapping a 20 mg in half bc it was too much.

Just don’t be jealous of my continuous high dosing back then, twas not fun.

Finding the right meds and dosages have been tricky for several of my diagnoses and such

I'm not jealous of the being dosed too high, just of it being possible. I can take 80 mg without much impact on my ADHD symptoms and without any identifiable negative side-effects (outside of my guts speeding up if I haven't taken in it awhile).

Can you sleep when you take it fxe?

I was awake 20-22 hours a day on Vyvanse 20, even when I took a sedative at bedtime.

i'm thankful none of the ADHD meds i've been on interfered with my sleep, it could have been that my job at the time was just exhausting for it to be anything but that effect.

Usually, if I need to sleep I can. There's rare times where taking a large dose will mess up my ability to fall asleep for a few hours, but usually that just means I need to try again in 2-4 hours.

I've yet to find one that actually works and doesn't keep me awake.
I could never up the doses because I'd have insomnia for days.
The highest I got was Vyvanse 40 and that was unsustainable.
