38, but I didn't think it was a good test at all. So far I think the best diagnostic tool is the "You Know You're an Aspie If" list!! ! :D

From 23 to 30 depending on certain assumptions. I might as well have ADD and not Asperger since people with ADD score in that range too.

The results page just reports averages. However, if your score approaches the average of those in the pilot study with a diagnosed condition (like AS, ADHD, or anything else), it is not an indication that you are likely to have that condition. Self-texts can't diagnose.

I saw this test while researching AS on the web before I wound up here - I score 43 out of 54. And regarding the first question, I like to consider some of my complaint letters to be somewhat legendary :D

What' this of AS extending to IQ 70? If that is the case, what does differentiate AS from any other ASD?

ASD is a continuum. There is a positive correlation between higher function and IQ. The more high functioning the individual, the higher the IQ. Consequently, a majority of persons with Kanner's syndrome are also intellectually disabled. (These are averages, and there are exceptions.)

i'm gonna have to disagree with you there. IQ tests are notoriously unreliable for nonverbal autistics. People just assume they're ret*d, because they can't prove otherwise. I've seen cases where once a nonverbal autistic is taught to use a litwriter (sp?) they're IQ score goes through the roof.

Interesting. I am just going by what I have read in the literature. (I have access to tons of journals online because of my professorship.) However, what you wrote is very thought-provoking.

I saw a program on CNN about this young autistic lady. I don't know if she had Kanner's syndrome or something else. However, she appeared to be brilliant. She communicated through an electronic device.

I saw a CNN video of this lady a few years ago. I admire how she hasn't allowed people to change her. I would kill to not have to look at people when I communicated, or didn't have to play any games just be allowed to live ( my cousins tried to off me a couple of times as a child and teen, so I have learned to cringe and slink around just to be able to live)

Those with autism generally have a cognitive delay as well as the verbal one; IQ tests taken as a child don't reflect on the same when they're older. This one facet that states the 70-75% figure concerning the amount of mentally ret*d individuals with autistic disorder/Kanner's is erroneous. Also, the fact that they're [usually] more overwhelmed with the environment affects their score.

I got an IQ of...nothing in high school due to melting down in the class
I achieved 160 [x2] in primary school when I was comfortable with the environment and anxiety free (160 was the ceiling)
I got a "high IQ" from a psychologist when I was...5-6 that was administered due to my verbal impairment, i.e., why can't this child read/write (I was fine at math)?

The problem with mental retardation is that it can cause social difficulties itself, whether autism or not (how can one distinguish between the two?).

Merle,

Strong recommendation: See if you can find the program on the one of the video sites (YouTube, Google Video, MetaCafe, etc.) It is, as I recall, an hour long. Therefore, if it on YouTube, it would be broken into parts.

bitten by dogs... what an odd question and why would that have anything to do with things such as asperger's syndrome?

edit to fix a typo
