I do that and I also get really caught up in it while driving. Driving is an anxiety provoking activity for me, but I have to do it. I tend to be pretty cautious and slow, so I get cut off a lot, or people tailgate me a lot because I don't usually go over the speed limit and people always want you to go faster. This makes me anxious and I end up having these obsessive conversations with the other drivers, in my head, justifying why I am driving the way I do. I have to consciously stop myself from having these obsessive little talks or I get distracted from my actual driving.

OK, so it happens after most anxiety provoking siotuations for me, like if I have met someone important and I make a gaff- I will continue the conversation in my head for hours and days afterwards..

Oh, yeah, I often have imaginary conversations in my head. Sometimes they involve people I know, or have known in the past, though other times they may involve people I've only heard of, such as the author of a book I've read. I do this a lot when I'm alone, or walking somewhere on my own. These conversations often relate to my interests, though they can sometimes relate to something that's bothering me, about myself or life in general.
I used to think that I didn't monologue about my interests. Then one day, I realized that I absolutely DO monologue about my interests. I don't do it in real conversations, but I do it plenty when talking to people in my head.
FYI, I do *not* have any confusion regarding what's imaginary and what's real.

Okay, now I have to ask another question! Some of you mentioned that you would never tell other people that you have conversations in your head, for fear of people thinking you are crazy. (I have never told anyone I have conversations in my head either, just because it never came up in conversation.....like "oh, by the way, I have conversations in my head"..... ) But I just assumed that everyone did this. Okay, maybe NTs don´t do it as much, possibly.....but couldn´t it be likely that this is something that most people do?

Does anyone have any proof, or reason to believe that talking to people in your head is abnormal? I don´t really know....just curious....

I do it too. Isn't this the same as the imaginary world thing? I never tell anyone about it, because it's difficult to explain it without sounding nuts, even though, like everyone else, there is absolutely no blurring between imagination and reality. I'm glad you guys understand. :-)

I was thinking this as well.

Me too.

I do this all the time, too.

I have conversations mostly with people I know or have seen, and it takes place in places I have been; like on the bus.
When I am thinking out, say, a theory of 'something', I imagine talking to another person about the theory, and the other person is retorting what I say to challenge the theory, but the retorts are _my_ retorts, so it's like I'm having a discussion with myself, but with someone else.

I also go through conversations with someone I'm actually gonna meet, to prepare something to say when we do meet.

Right now I am having a conversation with imaginary participants of this thread, sitting on chairs in a circle on the floor of a classroom. What I wrote in this reply, and what I am writing in this reply right now, is something I told the imaginary 'you' before I wrote it. You're all laughing at this right now. :P

I'm only laughing at a world that insists that we hide it, when everyone does it.
I'm much happier hanging out with people who tell the truth.

There was indeed one person in the circle that didn't laugh - I guess it was you! 8)

Yeah, that was my point earlier, in my post.

But, kjelmo: I laughed. :lmao: Remember me from inside your head?

Well no, you must have me confused with someone else. I was the one who was laughing a lot, stimming a lot, interrupting you at the wrong time, and probably putting my fingers in my mouth when I shouldn´t have. (Of course, in your head I could be anyone. :P )
