Aspergers and music obsession
I have a weird way of listening to music: I get a new song, listen to nothing but that one song for a long time then when I get bored of it I'll move on to another one. Sometimes I will have a playlist of songs I got bored of and suddenly like them again.
That's wierd I thought it was just me I often listen to one or two songs over and over again. Like I will have 200 songs on my ipod but listen to the same few songs repeatedly.
Also I go through phazes with music and jump from what genre to the next I usually just focus one time of music at the particular time. For example when I was a teenager I liked Trance and pop music. Then I started just listening to Hip-Hop music, then onto movie soundtracks only etc.
I have a Chic fixation - the band that did Dance Dance Dance, Le Freak (Freak Out), and Good Times. They also produced monster hits for Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Deborah Harry, and Duran Duran! They've been copied and emulated by many others in the music industry!
I went through an extreme amount of trouble to acquire all of their studio albums on CD - despite the fact that they might be released as a box set one day. I went through even greater trouble to get the solo albums by the band's bassist and guitar player, respectively. And then there was the research to find the most rare album by one the group's backup vocalists.
In some cases, I paid dearly for them. But I don't regret a bit of it!
I've always related to CockneyRebel's Kinks obsession!
I wouldn't call it an obsession, but I do tend to listen to the same music over and over and never grow sick/bored with it. For example, I've been listening to a Glenn Gould recording of Bach's Partita No. 2 like 5-10 times a day and not much else for a month or two now. I just really enjoy it *shrugs*. Eventually ill move on to something else ( I always do ), and I do listen to other music occasionally. Furthermore, more often than not, I can hear it so clearly in my mind I don't listen to anything at all and just enjoy it from memory.

I honestly wonder how I survived the years I didn't have music.
I think I'd say music is one of the heavy obsessions for me. I could get by doing nothing but music all day - I don't understand why so many can get bored. I'm never bored so as long music's involved in some way. My obsession with music is the only thing that seems to counteract social problems. Right as my family switched to the church we're at now, in the youth room, I immediately noticed that the praise band was missing a bassist - I play bass - I immediately volunteered to join in, and well, I did.
Back in my past bout with depression, showing up at our school's jazz band practice immediately made me happy. School starts at 7:35am; practice is at 6:45am. Everybody hated having to get up early for that. I always anticipated it. Even if I wasn't that good...
So I'd say I have an obsession with music, and sometimes it can get in the way of things. I don't watch television since every minute that's on, that's a minute music's not playing! I listen to every genre, or at least try to - I love trying new things with music, I even try and "take apart" music on a daily basis, whether that's figuring out how the song's composed, or by studying it's waveform. Then I might modify it myself.
Put me and a high-quality keyboard (with the piano tone sounding very realistic, and so many synthesizer and organ (etc...) tone settings, and stuff) in a small room together, and I think I could be entertained for days at a time.
Oh yeah, I am obsessed with music! I have a 160GB iPod and it's too small for me. Mostly I just DL stuff and collect it. Half of the stuff on my iPod I've actually never heard. There is just too much music to be had, especially when you like most genres.
Also...I dunno if this is an Aspie thing or not...but I can become completely obsessed with one song and have to listen to it all day long, I literally cannot change that song until I feel like I've learned it inside out. It's almost like a very mini special interest. Anyone else do this?

I don't repeat the song itself constantly, but I do repeat the entire album all day sometimes.
160GB? Yikes, If I had the money (since I don't usually download music, unless it's hard to get anyways, like video game soundtracks), I'd be closer there than the 24.8GB I have...

Yeah...Diana Ross' Tenderness [Chic Mix]! And I'm not even a hardcore DR fan! It's because of my Chic obsession!

I love to listen to ethnic music- a few favourites are Dippa Bhangra from India, Balle Balle, another Bhangra, Me Loyia Ellinikia from Greece, all the Irish and Greek music I can get my hands on, Mozart, Back, Rossini, Beethoven, and The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem. I'm also getting into Shaun Davey's works and Ronan Hardiman.
I suppose I love Greek and Irish music best because I do Irish folk dance and it's easy for me to make up new steps if I listen to the songs over and over.
One of my favourite songs is Fare Thee Well Enniskillen and I've played it on my iPod over 3,000 times since I first bought the song about two years ago. I listen to songs on repeat alllllll the time.

First, I have a very broad musical taste. The music that I like can be classical (Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovski) or from the sixties (Beatles, Chuck Berry), from the eighties (mainly italo-disco).
Besides that, I love to make music myself. I always dreamt to have a musical equipment that has lots and lots of functionality, a multi-purpose equipment. In 2007 that dream became reality, and I very often play on it, the Yamaha Motif XS7.

I own over 800 CDS, but since moving to Japan it doesn't make sense to buy loads of CDs I'd just have to eventually transport back to the US. So I DL music like crazy. I want to buy a lot of CDs but I'm just gonna wait till I go back to the US.
The Ink Spots...AS IN...If I Didn't Care like Redd Foxx used to sing on Sanford & Son?
Not making fun...if that IS the case, I just find it in-ter-es-ting!

Haven't heard that one. I really love I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire and Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall.
That aside I've recently been listening to Gigantesque from Soulcalibur IV.

Well, my ultimate musical love is The White Stripes, and that's because they make an effort to interpret a lot of classic blues songs and even folk songs into stuff people nowadays can understand and relate to. And then, after that there's the original blues, as in the Depression era stuff and the Chess Records days( Muddy waters, Etta James, ETC.), and then there's the 'white blues' of the early to mid sixties when rock was just blues sped up.(As in Canned Heat, The Animals, early stuff By The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, ETC.).
And then there's the 1920's foot-tapping Jazz, like the Charleston song, and classic jazz like Louis Armstrong or Duke Ellington.
Yeah...I really like blues and jazz music, to the dismay of anyone else my age that lives around here! Mostly the so-called 'emo-rockers' because my music isn't 'hardcore' enough. Puh-leeze! I think being able to sing about legitimately tragic stuff without going angsty and still keeping a melody, rhythm, and beat is plenty 'hardcore'. That being said, I like grunge rock music, who seem to have started the 'angst' thing, but that's only because they did it first so it's really good coming from them. Punk is pretty good, too.
