Yeah.

Sometimes people say 'Oh, you're autsitic, you must be good at math'

I've learned to say back 'No, you want Rainman, he'd two doors down. I'm from the useless facts department.'

I don't even remember how to work out fractions.

I guess they were right when they said 'if you don't use it you lose it.'

When I was younger I was terrible at maths, I just didnt understand, especialy the way I was being tought, ut when I hit highschool it was like I started to look at things in a different way and sudnely by looking at things differently I became good. I made bridges in my mind conecting things, and made small concepts a quick process for me, but my bain is still large equitions, where I simply can not memorise them.

I can't write it because I am very peculiar about how I write things- I use no less than five different colours of pen to do one problem... and if I accidently pick up the wrong pen and make the wrong color mark in the wrong place- I have to throw the whole page.

That is very interesting. What are the five colours, and what are they for? I have ten colours, one for each of the numbers 0 - 9. But I write the numbers in black ink or pencil, and just think about their colour.

I just discovered recently that my very good ASish friend can easily add up large numbers in his head...it is really impressive...I can toss large figures at him and he will toss back answers..and claim to be uncertain..and I will add them with a calculator and he will be correct... :)

If I go to a restaurant with my folks and we get asked how many, I always hesitate because my mind always adds me twice...not sure why that is.

I have an uncle who is not ASish...but he is a genius...and he can do all sorts of math in his head and whatnot....pretty impressive.

I have big trouble with math and I think it's because of a poor working memory.

I was never into math.

I think that's a big part of why I wasn't good at it. Once I understand it, it's a matter of staying focused.

I terribly hate math during early years 'cuz it's terribly HARD..as in super difficult...but when I entered high school,i don't know why but my teacher was kinda impressed with my ability to solve math problems without having a hardtime...I usually formulate my own solution that is quite complicated and no one could understand it (plus my penmanship is ugly :lmao: ) Since then, because of that appreciation, I started loving math :P and right now,I am preparing for another math competition this September.. This would be my 16th time to join a math competition...

1st Place-8 times (4x individual,oral | 2x individual,written | 2x team, oral)
2nd Place-6 times (3x individual,written | 2x individual,oral | 1x team,oral)
3rd Place-1 time (1x team, oral)
Below 3rd- 1 time (I forgot what category is it but It's like this: I would pick a problem then solve it and explain to the judges how I come up with such solution)

Oooh h me, me me!
I’m terrible at math! I couldn’t even help the forth graders that I used to baby-sit with their math homework :(

Odd thing though........people who knew me when I was two and three years old (including my dad) say that I understood the concept of prime numbers at that age, and could count by almost any number. People were really impressed and thought I would be a genius in math. However, I had HUGE problems with math in school later on, and was really good in reading and language. So strange!

Math certainly isn't my strongest point. I just forget it really quick or just remember bits and pieces.

I can only do basic math. It took me a year to get the concept of fractions and remember how to do the problems. I think I don't remember now because I only did them for a short time on my own and then we moved and it was already algebra so it was like I skipped something. I don't think my school gave me a chance and instead they just stopped giving me grade level math and gave me basic math to do because I was not grasping algebra. My mom said it was too abstract and my mind doesn't work that way. But then I hear lot of people aren't good at it so what's the difference between me and them? I guess they are still able to do it but they struggle and have to concentrate hard to solve the problem versus me not being able to do it.

i am sad and pathetic in the math department. i found out that i have dyscalculia at the same time that i found out about AS. makes me feel a bit better knowing it's not my fault that i can barely understand algebra.

i never really wanted to be very good at math (though it's uncomfortable in daily life) until i took physics. i loved physics but the math quickly got beyond me.
