I usually find the more abstract the lyrics the more I can get from them. mainly when i listen to music its the individual sounds I'm listening to which is why I love electronic music so much. Electrnoic sounds are so varied and very often unique that they dont need words to make a picture. I like vocals as well, more so when the voice is unique or altered in some way.

But there is also "pure" music, which does not transport emotions, but complexity...

Yes, I know. It doesn't do anything for me.

I have to agree here...this piece lacks Bach's usual feeling of "glory to God". Still, I prefer it to many of the alternatives.

I have recently found out (when my bf let me use his guitar), the reason I do not understand music or expecially sing very well. I can't identfy notes like most people, I can not hear "pitch". All I hear is "volume", "A" being almost to quiet to hear, and "G' being so loud I can't hear anythning else for some time. But apparently its an "Emily thing" and not an "AS thing", because he does not have that problem.

I'm exactly the same. It's why like classical music and non-vocal jazz. I often have trouble understanding lyrics.

The first time I heard the music of Bach (I think it was 7th Grade Music class) was like a mystical experience.

Music, though I listen to music with Japanese lyrics, but I consider that just instrumental since I can't understand it. I think words lose their emotions to aspies if they understand what they're saying. It's like doing two things at once. Since I can't understand Japanese, it syncs with the instruments and it evokes more emotion to me than rap, gospel, etc., but if I listen to a song whose lyrics are written in English, then I listen to the instruments instead since the lyrics would make me lose the emotion.

It's kind of a package deal for me with songs where there's music and lyrics. There are some songs where I like the music but not the lyrics, or the other way around, but it's the songs where both are in sync that really affect me. I also enjoy instrumental music, and sometimes I think I feel them more than songs with lyrics. A lot of times it seems like the songs I listen to explain how I feel much better than I can. I know a lot of times when I play my guitar, just improvising something on the spot, I feel like I can express what I'm feeling much more accurately than if I tried to use words. Does that make sense?
