and i hate to burst everyones' bubbles...but each of us is usually all three.
right wing politics tend to favour a rather primitive scenario that creates an enemy WITHOUT and BEYOND.
(see the Bush's terms of office for further historical illustrations.)
Yes that's the one... It's late, and my brain is asleep even if I am not.
Everything about Katrina was a mess and I’m glad I don’t live anywhere near there. I don’t think it would be that quite that bad where I live because we don’t have the corruption New Orleans had (probably still has) and we generally have a better grade of people than many of the convict grade individuals New Orleans is host to.
Those two things alone can make a big difference when things go to hell.
The poor and kept uneducated in Louisiana happen to own a lot of offshore oil. As much as Iraq, with the same results.
The most European of American cities, the oldest, with first the best port and crop land, then oil, has brought nothing but invsasion from the north to put our property in their hands.
New Orleans is an amazing city. Unless you've visited, pre-Katrina preferably, you shouldn't dismiss this true gem of the US.
Also - the root cause of the destruction is the disappearing bayous and wetlands of Louisiana - mainly cause by crap washing down the Mississippi from agriculture country beginning way up in Minnesota and winding down through the heart of farmland USA.
These same ag-bus areas use their share of oil - sent up from the gulf to power their farm equipment, and big ass pick-ups. Its one giant cluster-****.
All that fertilizer and pesticide crap sent down from the Northern states is also destroying one of Louisiana's biggest revenue sources - fishing and shrimping. It chaps me to no end that its so hard to find domestic shrimp at the grocery store. Mostly from China and Vietnam.

If I'm a right-winger, I hope my bonus check gets here pretty soon.
Seems obvious to me that civilization is an ephemeral phenomenon, and that throughout history, civilizations come and go like some high IQ, high functioning aspie's sex partners.
I don't think it's reasonable to assume that this civilization will be the only exception.

I'd just like to point out that the mass behavior out in the public seems to point at worries.
Seed sales are way up and some distributors are cleaned out.
Gun sales are way up. Gun company stocks are also up.
Stores are starting to run out of ammo.
Obviously, some people are worried...

Could it not simply be that your condition (assuming you actually have one) is giving you a dangerously false impression of the world and reality? Maybe the ONLY threat to the breakdown of society is people who think like you and feel they have to arm themselves and/or imagine that everyone else is the enemy. It is disturbing to hear anyone refer to themselves as right-wing and openly discuss firearms in a public forum, what exactly is being implied here? Nazism?
I heard a bona-fide SCREWBALL called bardok (with his troll accomplices Siv and Hotrod) in the IRC chatroom on this site last night talking about shooting his neighbors who he called prostitutes. He sure sounded like a convincingly dangerous person. I am beginning to question the calibre of people this site is attracting. It's actually very disturbing to read these posts, which in no way represents the Autistic community.
So the President is a Black man, get over it.
I seriously hope that the FBI are monitoring this site.
All societies eventually breakdown. That is perhaps the way things are meant to be and not an abnormality. The left/right wing thing are just two ends of the same animal and multi-party systems tend to work better so maybe we need a couple of healthy alternatives being discussed in D.C. besides the same old tired and flawed ideas we get from the Republicrats. Like Merle I remember when when it did look like the systems would fail but I didn't believe the experts who said it would take 40 years to come about and not the 5 that most of us anticipated. Maybe those old experts were correct all along.

It is not too spoken about it, but welfare makes policing easier. Generous welfare payments have the benefit to keep to non-have quite. If they have enough money to sit with a beer in morning in front of the TV they don't make that much trouble. This seems too obvious the non-outspoken policy in most parts of western Europe.

Well I see all this a little differently. As a Marxist/Trotskyist I am hoping that the possible social unrest will get everyone up off their arses and we can change this awful system we live under. The lies and deceit of the capitalist ruling class are now coming home to roost. The working class has a massive amount of power, if led in a principled way a revolution can happen without bloodshed.
My main fear is that the social democrats and the unions will once again lead the working class into betrayal.

The "working class" with its organizations, with their political parties, their trade unions, their clubs and organizations for the young, the old, etc. is no longer existing.
What you have today below the middle classes is either "petite bourgeois" and what Marx called the "Lumpenproletariat" (sub proletarian), a class of which Marx remarked that their loyalty can be gained with a vat of wine. Neither of both classes are capable of a revolutionary action.
Well I took a shower and went for Chinese food, I have a stock of books, sunlight is free.
As long as the food stamps hold out, which will keep it from getting out of hand, we will just have to adjust to living our own lives.
That is what frightens most people the worst. Their identity is based on their job, their level of debt, their toys, but they were only renting it. While the structure of their lives is gone, mine has hardly changed, and then for the better.
I never had much social function, so I am an expert at living in my own world.
The rich are getting poor, and the poor rich.
I have been buying machines I have long wanted but could not afford, cheap now. I went looking for a place to put them and found 1300 foreclosures, they are half price, $100 down FHA, with a 30 year fixed at the lowest rates in a long time. I can get $8,000 off thanks to the Government.
It is still over priced so I wait. Renting for a year or two and saving up money for the real sale, Resolution Trust of the 90s sold at 10% of the peak prices. This time should be lower.
Commercial property is just starting to be foreclosed, and less people want it, so I will look for something larger than most want, FDIC has had some real deals already. Next year will be a buyers market.
I am into air, water, food, and work. Republicans, Democrats, Wall Street, are like football, basketball, who wins does not affect me. Dollars may be worth more, deflation, or less, inflation. They will still be around.
I see the opppertunity.

Gardening is now a sign of doom???
Michelle Obama just planted a kitchen garden at the White House. I have expanded my 10 year-old herb garden to include peppers and tomatos. Oh my!! !
Its a trendy-trend - spurred by increased public awareness of locally-grown food (organic if possible), higher prices, lower quality produce, and a couple random and recent food scares - which are only food scares because we are more advanced these days in identifying sources of food-bourne illnesses.

What we live under is not true capitalism as defined by the free market but corporate socialism in which we bail out companies that would have failed to begin with. Only the auto companies should have been bailed out. We should have given the middle finger to Wall Street. If we have true capitalism, why is it that 40% of my mother's income is taken in taxes and social security? If you truly want to know what capitalism is, read the Ron Paul manifesto.

If you want to know a more radical approach to capitalism, try reading Murray Rothbard.

Normally it is not. In this instance it is a sign of the increasing worry's among the general public.
I have not looked up the statistics to see how much plant and seed sales have gone up. But looking around at people I know and people in the local area, Ive noticed a lot of people buying seeds. They are doing this because they feel like the food supply may become be in danger in the relatively near future.
supermarkets get replenished everyday to keep the shelves full.
Living in Florida I know how quickly the shelves empty when a hurricane is on the way. Water goes first then canned food . By the end of the day most of the shelves are bear or half empty.
My hope is that there is no talk of revolution. I really don't want to be around angry mobs of people. If this happens it will be horribly bad.
I don't think the average person understands how drastically there lives will change if people decide to have a revolution.
If you want change write to congress , no need to revolt.
