But I have no idea how to calculate who or what is "worthy" of attention or support, and this thread/instance simply "spoke" to me.

Because it has not been against the rules to ask for money, and we still don't know how this happened.
But I agree that giving him money was probably a bad idea, not because this might have been a scam, but because I think it was like leading someone into temptation; it was a mistake to send so much money to someone who was so clueless about so many simple concrete details ... the whole thread rather like putting a two year old who still can't walk very steadily onto a roundabout that they could not have climbed onto on their own, and then paying to have it speeded up.

I don't think that he could possibly be talking about a "$200 taxi fare" in the hope of further donations; I think that it was just an excuse for why he hasn't gone yet.
It occurred to me reading this post that seeing as we don't know, and perhaps will never know, ( though I hope I'm wrong :lol
) , what happened here, what seanmw's real story is/has been, ... and seeing as there doesn't seem to be anything that we can do about it, whatever we think "it" is, ( and I spent the last 24 hours wondering what we could do ), ... that I might aswell believe the explanation that makes me feel, if not exactly happy at least not full of hate, resentment, anger, humiliation, bitterness, betrayal, etc. Edit. PS. It was also the first explanation which enabled me to do something, ( apologise ).

If this trip ever were to become actual, he could take a bus, not a taxi. Although it may cost 200$ to get from the airport to the destination, every single airport in the U.S. has a bus depot. Taking a taxi when you could take a bus is ridiculous.
1)Take a bus from airport to bus stop closest to destination.
2)take a taxi from bus stop to destination. Or walk, if it's close enough. At his age I routinely walked any distance <5 miles to save money on cab fare.
(Describing a plan is not meant to imply that I believe any trip is being planned. It's just an example.)
You make a good point, I wasn't sure if Indiana had a bus depot or not. It would make more since to take a bus.

The 200 dollars thing is just his excuse about why he hasn't done it yet. He doesn't actually need 200 dollars.
If Indiana doesnt have a bus service its about 500 years behind the rest of the western world, if hick towns in New Zealand even have them.

Sean is just a pathetic excuse for a man. Even the Greyhound buses are cheaper than the supposed taxi cab fare. Really guys there are no more excuses. There's no point in speculating anymore. Either you let it go or take some sort of action, even if it's not legal action (I'm not saying do something illegal; I'm saying no law enforcement involved). Maybe his low-life future will be his punishment. Hasta luego.

I did not edit out (or in) the intent or meaning of any of it. It's all right there for anyone to either see for themselves or debunk.
Frankly, if it can be debunked, I wish someone would. I rather liked the guy.
I have no beef with him. I didn't send him any money. But if he did make off with other people's money here, for whatever reason, they deserve to know.
If you're so certain he didn't, why don't you spend the time I did to compile that time line, and prove me wrong? As I said, I liked the guy. I hope I am wrong. If the info I gathered is right though, it's not looking very promising.
