Mildred’s best friend shown for a split second in the trailer. Denise is so naive and trusting, finds it hard to be deceptive.

Maud pie from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic has many of the traits associated with autism. She talks in a monotone voice, has a flat face, has a specific interest in rocks, misinterprets non literal language, is extremely blunt, and is even seen stimming in certain shots. Twilight, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie are also possible contenders for having ASD, but Maud’s traits are more extreme than all of theirs.

Mary, one of the younger Bennett sisters in Pride and Prejudice - (the one who plays the piano). Perhaps the earliest depiction of a female on the spectrum in any English novel?

Robinson Crusoe (Defoe, 1719) and Gulliver from Gulliver’s Travels (Swift, 1726).

I kind of wonder about Moll Flanders, too.

Don Tillman in The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion.

(I had the pleasure of meeting the author. He said he unknowingly wrote at first about autism because he thought he had based his characters just on people he had worked with in computer technology. It was only after he started receiving unexpected affirmation from AS people that he realised his depiction of Don was a depiction of one kind of AS presentation
!)

omfg I can't believe only one person mentioned Adrian Monk so far... and not until page FOUR?? How much more Aspie can he get? The episode where he back to his college for a reunion, where he told his assistant he'd been known as Captain Cool.... only to find out it was because he defrosted a fridge in the common room every week. And his brother Ambrose, as well. Another Aspie from the word "go".

And yes I absolutely agree with House, Grissom, and the Law & Order guy, that almost monotone delivery he has, the methodical way he analyzes everything. Just because we don't directly perceive the NT's emotions sometimes, doesn't mean we can't LEARN to analyze them. After all, how many of us end up as pyschiatrists? More than you might think. And as attorney's too.

Thank you, I was screaming Adrian and Ambrose Monk in my head
