You're thinking of Bill Gates, right? hehe.

No, I was thinking of some things that happened on the Autism Hub last yearish.

I don't think it's within a person's nature to bully (look at the actual percentage of people that are bullies... you will interact with bullies more than non-bullies, simply because bullies seek out victims, but that doesn't make bullying the norm), and it's certainly not within an autistic's nature.

It's not within an "average person's" nature to bully, sure. But, it is within *someone's* nature to bully to ensure the conformity of the herd, and you can bet that if 99% of the population were autistic, there'd definitely be an autistic bully out there. Variation in the population ensures it.

What makes you think that it's their nature that causes them to bully?

Of note:

Quote:
Studies indicate that bullies often come from homes where physical punishment is used, where the children are taught to strike back physically as a way to handle problems, and where parental involvement and warmth are frequently lacking.

Counselling and intervention would obviously be best, but until they start having an effect, they need to be out of the schools.

Anywho. The point is this: No, bullying is not natural.

If by 'not natural', you mean uncommon, surely you're right. However, if you mean that it only exists in Homo Sapiens as would be implied by a phenomenon unique to humanity (Because humans are somehow removed from being "natural"), you're most certainly wrong. Aggressiveness is a trait that naturally varies in any species, and some members naturally possess higher levels of aggressiveness than other members such as the mean bulldog among a group of tamer dogs. And bigger birds among small birds. Here's proof:

Except:

1. You're overlooking the fact that bullying traits come from poor home environments, rather than being an inborn trait
2. That picture as "proof" is a matter of survival, NOT cruelty. If the pigeon let all the other birds eat all the food, it would starve. A kid isn't going to die if they don't pull down someone's pants.

1. You're overlooking the fact that some bullies come from poor home environments, rather than all coming from 'impoverished' environments. Bill Gates was widely considered a bully within his company and his home environment was not lacking in love nor wealth.

I used to not want to be cured but at this point I would go for a cure. Im already working to become more and more NT as it is, why not just get cured. Being outwardly aspie, the chances of survival are so much lower. Trying to get the point where I can depend on myself and my social skills. Some things are hard for me to smoothly execute but Im gonna have to learn to get what I want out of life. We live in an NT world, its defiently gonna be a while till people are more acceptant of autistics.

Personally I think it would be fine for there to be a cure but it shouldnt be forced on people. It should be around for the people who want it. And the person whos actually autisitic should be the one to decide not the family.

I think the bigger question is the definition of cure.
Recent imaging of autistic vs nt brains shows large differences in the way messages get sent threw the brain. If I could have both types of patterns merged, look out world.

I support two cures, one for autistic people to become neurotypical and one for neurotypical people to become autistic. Each person can then choose for him- or herself. I would choose to remain autistic.

I would like to be cured of my obsessive compulsive personality which is severely debilitating, and I believe it is directly linked to ASD. It's such a part of me, therapy and medication have just never helped.

People are just gonna have to learn to tolerate me. No way in hell am I getting cured! Its what makes me interesting and intelligent. Without it i'd likely be one of these football watching, beer swigging, celebrity idolizers that we call "normal" people.

I want to be functional in life but not necessarily "cured".

Cured form what?Blindness?Physical disability which you can't walk?Autism is not all that. Now if others treat you differently it's not Asperger's disorder itself fault but society's.
