I didn't know there was a regularly scheduled Aspie meetup in Olympia. I am interested--don't know how the sig.oth. would feel about the regular transportation expense, and he's already predicted that I wouldn't gain anything from going to such things. Knowing how introverted I am, he might have a point. But then again, it might help me to feel a little less out of place in this NT-normative world! Are there private messages on this board? I've never used them, but I want a map and an address and a flyer or something. Would have to show the s.o. to gain a foothold on trust...Hm. That would include this Saturday, yah? Would there be other dweebs there saying "To The Professor" and knowing we were talking about Tolkien? :nerdy:

(clicky)square pegs Olympia aspie meetup page
I have to admit  that my cat knows more about hobbit stuff than I do. I have the common aspie male allergy to fiction. but if it makes you happy then it is a great thing! :) there are no PMs on that page that I could find, you post a question and the site master [Carl] will get back with you, you will [if you register with the site] get email notifications of such. PM me if you have any questions about it. :)
basically you take the evergreen college exit off of hiway 101, park in the first parking lot you will see past the guard shack- beware of speed bumps. you will have to walk through a woodsy dirt area until you see buildings, the meetup location is in the main bldg. on the right side of the quad [the big open area with the clock tower straight ahead], on the ground floor across from the egg plant cafeteria.

The Oly Square Pegs meeting--looks like it is almost a 35 mile trip for me and googlemaps says it would take nearly an hour in that dreaded thing known as traffic. I hate traffic. Of course it never stopped me from going to the races in Rochester when I was dating a certain racecar engine mechanic... I do miss those days. Happily I don't have to miss him because my racecar guy is still my s.o. :) So I will "put a pin in it" as the annoying agent in the movie Bolt always said.

I hate traffic also, it is a two-hour round trip for me living in the wilds of mason county. I believe there might be another tacoman who attends.

Thank you for the link, AuntBlabby.

and there isn't much I can find out without joining. :(

I don't know how to use the PM function on this board

but I like the idea of walking through a woodsy area to get to a meeting on a college campus. I like college campi. Academics is about the only thing I've ever really felt I was good at.

And I love fiction. I read somewhere--I think maybe Attwood's complete guide to Asperger's--that female Aspies often like fantasy worlds. I love them. I think that might be my special interest.

well, I joined the site and I am still alive. ;) and sometimes I am even kicking  as for PMs, there is a button underneath my post box [each of them] that you can push, and it will take you to a WP page that communicates with me or whose other posts you click the PM buttons on. or I could just PM you and all you would have to do is respond or not respond. I will do that, if you please.

Nah it would be less productive than just talking over this forum. I'd meet a long distance friend, but I feel like a gathering would be pointless if it's more than just a few people.

Unfortunately I live in Iowa and lack to resources to make a trip to Seattle because I'm a poor college student :(

Yeah it sucks, I've never actually meet another aspie irl. It also seems like there aren't any other aspies from Iowa on Wrongplanet.

I lucked out and straightaway found a fellow WPer at my local square pegs aspie meetup. you might try square pegs and see what they come up with [aspie meetup-wise] in your neck of the woods. and I found in retrospect I have met many aspies but was not conscious at the time that these folk were indeed aspie, as it was before I knew that I myself was one. :alien:

I probably should but I have some misgivings. Bringing even more idiosyncratic thought into my life might be a slippery slope at this juncture.

I know my life is roughly divided into two main parts- before and after wrong planet, and of the second part, before and after meeting other aspies in person :)

Some years ago, there were a few meetups held in London, of WP members and I went to some of those. It was great meeting some of the older members here. I also went to a concert in London with a member here who I don't think comes in anymore, Ice b.
