I was born with it. My relatives had autistic traits.

I got it from Agnes. She got it from Jim. We all agree it must have been Louise who gave it to him. She got it from Harry who got it from Marie, and everybody knows that Marie got it from me.

I probably inherited it from my dad.

Mine was from bad luck. If it's that inheritable, then why don't any of my cousins have it? I have 12 cousins, and not one show any Autistic traits. Why has it just gone to me? It's been bothering me for years.

That's interesting. Almost all of my cousins have Autistic traits. I have much more than 12 cousins. lol

Vaccines may turn on autism but the autism genes have to be there to begin with. All my siblings got the vaccine and even the rubella before high school (which I avoid cuz needles hurt).

My dad had an ASD. My mum also reminds me of many adults I talk to with ADHD. And I have both.
Also: premi-birth, no labor induced cesarean, antibodies depleting my red blood cells - may have played a part in my autism.
There's mental retardation on my mothers side and my auntie could have AS.
I don't know about my dad's side. They're from an Indian village. I think a whole community is in my family.

I don't know. Probably genetic, but although we've got other issues in the family, I would appear to be the first autist. Though we had other late talkers on my Mum's side, who turned out to be specialised geniuses. But maybe they were just stupidly clever... On the other hand my son inherited it... but did he inherit it from me or his Dad? I was prem... does that have any effect? Who cares?

I'm going with the idea I was born with it. My family has people with some traits on every branch and I have a younger cousin who was diagnosed as a kid.

I've never heard the ear infection theory before...do people really think that's a possible cause?

I'm going with the idea I was born with it as well, mixed with a lot of bullying and ostracism in primary school making it a lot worse (or making it show more.)

I used to think some of my sensory stuff came from my big 4rth grade illness. But while not everything was seen at once, and I am still connecting things I have been doing for ages as part of the pattern, I hain't got no terminus ante quem. Nor any identifiable causality.

Genetic differentiation by means of strict specialisations in bloodlines and partner choice based upon certain qualities, the human nature is to thank for this mechanism :nerdy:.

I had not thought of ear infections as a cause of autism but since ive had a problem with my ears for a long time maybe its true so I chose that for it makes sense to me. :)
