I hate being banned from forums. It makes me feel like such a reject. I also hate the distance between people on the internet in that you're not talking face-to-face because if you were, people would be able to pick up on inflection and stress and they'd see what you're saying isn't rude but light-hearted joking.

I also hate it when I'm goaded to the point of becoming precipitous. People will make mean or snide comments and I'll make a comment back defending myself and I'll be the one who gets in trouble and later banned.

Or when an admin or moderator is having a really bad day.

makes me feel unwanted

Kinda makes me wonder if I do a good job on a forum I'm on like this one, if I can't get the admin to put in a good word for me where I was that I want to be.

Sometimes, I even state in my parting words, "may your children never have aspergers and ADHD". But they generally say that I'm using that to hide behind or use as a crutch.

I was banned from a nutrition forum for questioning the benefits of a high carbohydrate diet.

I have been banned from a forum for 10 times. It was not my behaviour, that forum had really weird rules.

Note taken. Added you to the "Keep an eye on this one" list! :P

I can't remember being banned from any forums. The closest I've got has been on a forum called City Data (a huge forum about cities, geography, demographics etc.). On it, I asked why certain countries do the middle finger on Google Maps so much while others don't do it much or at all. This was taken to be a trolling question, I can see why, though it really was meant to be a serious question. It got me a warning, and asking such questions again will probably result in a ban.

I suppose it was because they thought my question offended nationalities. It's notable that I asked about Canada, as it seems to be just about the worst country for offensive gestures, and a Canadian gave me the warning.

OT - many of us do use lots of vulgar gestures and foul language in Canada. one nickname for giving the finger here is called The Trudeau Salute, because one of our past leaders (Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau) gave the finger to a group of protesters while he was in office. we are oddly proud of that fact.

I was banned from a support forum for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue because I said the forum software should be updated to work like other forums.

I used to be an admin on a busy forum and we never banned anyone -- just once we banned a guy for repeatedly saying really creepy things to young women, both in posts and by PM. But we often suspended people for a few days if they were really over-the-top obnoxious, which was usually something they did on purpose to get a reaction.

I have been banned by corrupt forum moderators on other online forum sites for little or no reason. It just forces me to make alternate accounts to circumvent the ban with ghost accounts and forces me to change my posting style and not post silly threads.

Forum owners/moderators seem to be tyrannical egomaniacs who don't like to be questioned nor do they like you pointing out flaws. Power corrupts.

Yep. And they love to take sides with their buddies rather than go by the rules.

I think most forums will put up with autistics for a while but sooner or later the autistic will get banned.

I don't recall ever having been banned from any forum, although I tend to cause strife and discord if I speak my mind bluntly. I have been accused of trolling and flaming when all I was trying to do was disagree with something someone else said.

I find online it's actually easier for me to function socially, although I still make mistakes and get into arguments over literal or non-literal interpretations, or over people trying to claim that their factually incorrect opinions are as valid as any factually correct statement (I hate this so much).

I have been banned from a mailing list for a huge social faux pas, but that was years and years ago, and the ban was removed within a week when the list owner realized I really didn't understand what it was I said that was wrong until he explained it to me.

Autistics can not show empathy/feelings but are not manipulative. Sociopaths can not show empathy/feeling and are manipulative deceptive liars and trouble makers. Sociopaths can fake emotions to get their own way through manipulation but they do not feel emotions and feelings.

Autistic people can show empathy/feelings, and can be manipulative. Things are much more complex than "all autistic people are exactly like this with no variation."

I disagree with this partially cause I am very emotional...and have empathy although not the range that NT's do, I am also able to manipulate because I grew up in a dysfuctional family that practiced mental warfare at the advanced level....it was a sink or swim thing.
However, I dont manipulate very often but in dire self defense. And no I am not a sociopath as I have a very well fuctioning moral code...sometimes it works too well though and gets me in trouble with people who are sociopaths. I read once that as much as 1 in 35 people are a sociopath....creepy huh??? There are also 2 types of sociopaths type A and type B
sociopath type A are like Ted bundy and other violent offenders
sociopath type B are like that boss you had that was a total jerk and did not think twice about doing something corrupt and putting the blame on someone else.
I read a report in the news that most of the people running corperations and most political leaders in the US are sociopaths...scary thought.

Off-topic (but I will post on-topic in a moment):

How true! That is exactly how the world has always seemed to me, ever since I was a young child, and yet, even though I am now 59 years old, I am still only starting to come to grips with the atrocious truth of it. It still scares the crap out of me.

I Googled for the reference, but in the first two hits, I saw it attributed to two different authors!

(The Internet destroys information, too!)

Do you happen to know the original source?
