I am trying to come to terms with having aspergers. I dislike it as well

I really like having AS. I didn't know I had it for a long time, and a lot of my life has been hell because of it, but I learned the hard way, discovered coping mechanisms, and just pressed on.

Now that I know I have AS, I'm much happier. I think it's cool seeing the world differently than other people.

By the way, I just love dogs and have never taken to cats. I mean, I might be a cat in my personality, but the first "person" who ever loved me for who I am was my dog, Spot. If "all cats have Asperger's," I think it's wrong to say that dogs are like NTs. I think dogs are more like angels. :cat:

This is, more or less, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy designed for Aspies. It's a good way to develop coping skills. It doesn't change the core of the Aspie, but helps to identify faulty patterns of thought and behavior, and to replace them with healthier ones.

I'd have to agree that having Asperger's doesn't make you stronger, but weaker. It's most difficult when you are a teen or young adult when fitting in socially is so important.

I was diagnosed just recently and, for me, it's been wonderful to finally have an explanation (after the initial "why me?", of course). Now, I love the diagnosis as it just seems to fit who I am. Sure, I'd prefer not to have it, but I really have no choice but to learn to accept it for what it is and move on.

I suppose the way I see it is its the way my brain is wired and how it works, and while there are a lot of difficulties I just don't see it as 'all' bad.

Actually, apparently "All dogs have ADHD".
I never took to cats either by the way.

Yes, Autism sucks. IT REALLY DOES. But, simultaneously, it is an asset. I may get made fun of horribly by bystanders when I make a social "oopsie," but I hold more of an insight about humanity. Chimps never knew themselves as well as Jane Goodall knew them... do you understand what I'm trying to say? It sucks for me, but due to my inclination towards writing, it comes in handy. Also: my boyfriend of five or so years is an NT but he gets me completely. Were the same people with different characteristics, I guess, Lol! But maybe your autism hasn't come in handy yet. All I know, is that it sucks. I'm not 'proud' of it, but I'm proud of myself- my accomplishments, sense of humor, fashion sense, artistic ability.... and those are affected by autism. So, in a roundabout way, I am proud of autism.

Me too. I hate this cursed illness! I, like all others, had no chance! We were born with it. That is not fair, and it angers me beyond description. You only get one shot at life and it must be with this cursed condition from conception till death. I cannot express how angry that makes me! If there was a god (which I do not believe) I would want to tear him to peaces. I am a hedonist and value pleasure above all. NTs seem to be capable of experiencing so much more pleasure than people with AS. Oh there goes the anger again lol

But then, when I do work, I'm very self-sufficient and willing to get the tasks done thoroughly, and I am very reliable too. So that proves to myself that it probably is not laziness, but just lack of motivation to go into work, especially when the job involves some stressful tasks.
