I seem to be a tonsorial outlier in this day and age, I wear my hair down my back while 99.99% of other men shave theirs military-butch short skin-tight high and tight. ugh. :eew: if they're gonna cut it that short they might as well just shave it all off AFAIC. I've never cared for such short hair, everybody else seems to think it's great.

Really, how long?

how long is mine? about halfway down my back, I'm not sure if it grows longer than that. how long is yours? :afro:
I had the long hair until it just got too thin on top. My hair was always down my back. And, I had the full bodied, wavy hair that women always commented on (that and my eyelashes). I mean full blown hippie style. Did try to shave my head once.....couldn't deal with the tactile sensation of my hair rubbing on my pillow or the sound it would make. I have to have my hair laying a certain way when going to sleep. Really not fun as it can take me ten minutes to get it to where it 'feels right'. It was easier to manage when longer on that end as it could be tied up if needed. Right now short is good for me...no upkeep really. And, I hate shaving with a passion. Been doing it 42 years. Kinda a real pain in the ass....so I'm scruffy all the time.

zkydz,

Yes, I've seen that. I think the obsession with appearance that many people have is very unhealthy, but it exists in many cultures, including our own.

Yes, I agree completely. But it does seem that Asian Cultures are really hard about it. And the meaning they apply to every body part is really amusing but, also reinforces that need for body modification. Can't tell you how many Chinese people have come up and felt (!) my ears and comment on the fact that I should be very wealthy based on my earlobe shape. Seriously? Ummmmm, I am the living disproof of that philosophy. But, they swear by it.

Why I hate anime:

Huge eyes with unrealistic colors
Small pointy noses
No lips except on adult females
Unrealistic facial expressions
Humongous, ugly ears (not all the time)
Unrealistic hair and hair colors
Often racist or stereotypical drawings of other races
The characters all could be the same person almost because the facial characteristics are too similar
Sound effects which are overdone

The biggest thing is really that the characters all look the same. So boring.

I personally am not a huge fan of Japanese culture anyway. I like their videogames, I like their food, but that's it. I don't dislike the people, I just am not really into their modern culture. Everything has to be "cute". Sometimes I just get sick of cute. The cuteness is overpowering.

I know some weeaboos think that the Japanese can do no wrong, but I try to stay realistic and open-minded about what is both good and bad about any culture, as they all have flaws. I do agree with you about their food and games, though I do like some of their anime. I actually love the unique hair colours and weird hair styles, but I completely agree with you that their appearances are all too homogenous, unless you look for unique drawing styles (there are a few).

This image fits perfectly with your sentiment!

As long as I'm clean and don't have body parts that shouldn't be sticking, sticking out, I'm in agreement with you there. But, I do admit that a person with a haircut that frames the face properly is really nice :)

In my experience, it's not well-liked, and has made things hard for me.

This so much. I'm an androgynous female, and I'll tell you, people really don't like you when you don't look like them. I think it makes it difficult for people to know where you stand sexually, and they don't like that because putting people into boxes where their sexuality and identity belongs is easy.

For years my mother made me feel like garbage for not caring enough about my hair, face, clothing, etc... Because a lot of your value is tied up in appearance and how you present yourself. It's no better for men either, because androgynous men are seen as 'gay' and even just having effeminate or softer appearances can have an effect on their social status with both men and women.

I get that. It's kinda funny, I always found most 'girlie' types to be so-so. For some reason though, I think androgyny is worse for women than men. Men can be thought of as gay, or effeminate, but it's not as bad as women who are thought of as 'manly'. This is just my observance. And it seems to come from other women. I learned early on that most women get dolled up not to get men, but instead to compete with other women. Can't tell you how many times I heard women complaining about someone's skirt length (usually from someone with not so attractive legs) or someone's blouse style (usually someone with the less than endowed areas).

I just think women are harder on other women than on men. And, my parents did the same thing to me about appearances too, so that isn't limited to women.

As an addendum...It would not matter to me at all if I found out that someone I was involved with was not physically who I thought they were. I would be involved with the person and not worried about if they had a Mr. or Ms. Happy there. They would still be the same person I was attached to. But, I can say I am not attracted to male type personalities, there would have to be some form of femininity there even if only as a tomboy type of thing.

I'm not saying "personal appearance" in regards to bodily hygiene, I mean it in reference to these people who go out and have hundreds of dollars spent to inject, break, bend and burn their faces. All in an attempt to be "attractive". And then their are the women/girls who cake their faces with tons of make-up. Yuck.

In regards to hair, mine is naturally straight but curls on the forehead. And like my profile pic, the curls go down to right above my eyes.

I know. I just used the qualifier for my statement only. Unfortunately, most people equate unkempt with dirty, or disorganized (by their standards) as being dirty.

I have to say that quote attributed to me---while it's really good---is not mine.

I can't take credit for someone else's idea.

I did write that I am aroused by at least somewhat feminine women---but I don't have any particular objection to masculine women or effeminate men.

I don't know what's worse, that type of confusion, or being just normal enough that you pass by until you have to engage them. I am so tired of "You know better", or, "You're too smart", or any other number of things.

I actually have a very good transgender radar by way of my anatomy studies. But a few do surprise me though.

Maybe one of the things that bother's people about androgyny is whether they should 'make advances' if there is no clear cut role to assign.

As for androgyny being accepted overall, I do find this humorous:
In a culture that demands very rigid sexual roles, there sure is a lot of gender bending and blending going on in those societies. Does Futanari ring a bell anyone?

I believe it may be called It's Pat. I have never seen it before, though.

How about Ouran High School Host Club? :P

Are you two talking about that "Pat" character that recurs on SNL?

The gender ambiguous person. Someone described it to me once, and it sounds hilarious. :D But Ive never caught on it TV yet.
