In order for Jonathan to succeed in the world, he has to learn about personal space. It's absolutely essential.

When you asked what it means when autistic people take everything literally, it means we might not know if something is just an expression or a figure of speech. For example I once read about making someone "eat crow", and I was like "oh gross" because I thought at first they really were eating a crow.

Your mom might want to ask his grandparents for instructions regarding his routine or whatever. Do's and don'ts if any. My mom did that before my autistic friend from camp spent the weekend.

If you end up sharing a room you might get some interesting convo with him laying down with the lights out. That's usually when its easiest for me to talk and I have stuff to say to Liam. Provided he does't conk out right away.

Oooh, that sounds like I redecorated your room. I stack my books by size, too. :?

Books by size, clothes by type and color hanging up but can't touch. socks by color, type and brand.in top drawer only white or black t-shirts are folded and but in the second drawer. And you lay your outfit for the next day on a chair and you match your socks and shirt they have tobe the same color.and he don't give a inch on things
Now in writing this understand i'm not complaining just saying what my first weekend was like.I all so have to say it is a lot my mom fault when johnatain walked through the door my mom was leaving for work and she said johnatain make yourself at home so he did .Those type satements all ready got me in trouble and cost me one of my boots the frist time i meant johnatain. I think thats been the hardest apart for this NT is just learning to say exactly what you mean cause that is what's going to happen, when johnatain say something he don't change it or give in.and he expects no less from his friends

Haha! That is funny in a good way. Yes, literal interpretation can be exhausting, but wouldn't you want every personal butler to be so detailed oriented? :) By the way, I am one of those autists who wears the same color and style clothes (with rare exeption) everyday. I own several black T-shirts and pairs of denim pants. I look the same from day to day unless I need to change it up for social reasons. It all makes me laugh at myself.

I'm not posting all this tobe mean are making fun.but hoping that by doing this I get words of widsom because as much as johnatain has became a good friend in so short of time it is stressful at the same time and he still don't talk much about how his mind works and takes questions as criticism and closes off.
I can say the good outweighs the bad and thats hard to get kids to understand but he holds his own with them

hey dude, my names liam, i'm ezra's cousin. we share a room and all i can say is welcome to my world. when it comesto the room he has to be in charge organizing things. its his way of keeping order so i just go with it. also it can be hard or basically impossible getting him to respond or answer questions sometimes, and ive been at it my whole life. so its like that saying, "accept the things i cannot change, willingness to change the things i can, and the ability to know the difference". and you don't sound mean at all, its ok to joke about it or to vent. im sure everyone can tell your a good guy. and good luck!

I see I got hijacked by Liam again hmm. My autism does not effect me as much that way. But I know my teachers get trained on how to talk to us to try avoiding those kind of misunderstandings. I have however been told on my gaming forum that my thinking is too black and white.
