Not sure if it is my favorite but this one I do often. If there is a pen in front of me and some paper ANY kind of paper you can imagine, I will be scribbling or doodling. It doesn't matter if it happens to be a form that needs to be mailed in... Sometimes I have to catch myself or if I don't someone (my grandma) will get mad and pull the pin out of my hand or shove my hand away.

If it's a clicky pin and there is no paper around, then I'll click it cumpulsivly *click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-...*

Service bells are fun too. *must resist urge to push down on that button and ring it*

Or I may take it apart and reassemble it, especially if it is a non clicking pen.

I also wiggle my feet and twitch my leg up and down. I used to be told "Your moter is running" by my dad.

I do have some uncontrollable hand-flapping recently. It seems my mind has chosen this as a new favourite for the time being: probably because I'm just so happy that I have calming, relaxing holidays!

Congratulations! You're a seeder!

Seeders are unique. Experience SNACKTIVITY(TM).

I am not making that up.

Good fortune,

- Icarus is a snacktivity...[/quote] END quote by Icarus.

In actuality, there is evidence that Icarus is a parakeet. I am quite convinced. 'Snacktivity?' This translates, in Aspergian, to 'Icarus want a cracker?'

Icarus, although lovable, can be a bit 'mixed up.' He was beaten as an egg. No wonder he likes sunflower seeds. I'll bet he has a cuttle bone at the workplace - just to relieve 'stim' stress. Maybe a little swing with a mirror? Who knows.

Rocking back and fourth and to the sides. I also will hum part of a song, not the whole song but part of it over and over again.

Rubbing the top of one foot against the bottom or the heel of the other. Sometimes against the ankle. I think it mostly depends on the position of my legs, the one foot (usually left) just rubs against whatever the top of it is against.

I scrape my index fingernail and my thumbnail under one another. Sometimes,Irunmy thumbnail under the nails of that same hand, index, center, ring, little, little, ring, center, index, repeat 'til noticed. I lift my toes inside my boots and let them down one at a time, little toe first.

When I was growing up, I would cross my leg across my opposite knee and wiggle my foot. Some times I would lean my weight back on my heels and tap my toes, left, right, repeat. I did that until I was in the Army and got that one cured in a hurry.

I have an exercise ball in my room; I like to sit on top of it and bounce up and down. In the summer I can use the trampoline and the swing in the backyard.

I crack my fingers, toes, ankles and neck. Also, I use to sit on the bed and twist myself to left and right till I crack my spine. This is my best way to relax.

'waving hand jedi style in front of automatic doors' - lol brilliant!! I gotta try that :D

I got a bunch of stims, and from reading all the others here, I think I have a lot more than I realized.

The stims I know about that I do:
* foot scraping - scraping the underside of feet on anything, table feet, fuzzy carpet, sand, dirt, tiles, concrete...etc.
* hands playing with things - I have several specific 'fiddly toys' I have collected or made for when my hands have this need
* I sway from side to side when standing or sitting down without something to rest my back on something
* Play with my hair, fingers, bracelet, necklace, feet do a fast wiggle/twitchy thing (only when I'm sitting down) when I'm feeling embarrassed or put on the spot
* I pace when on the phone
* Can't sit still, ever. I am always moving.
* Sound mimicry - This started when I was young, I mimicked all sorts of sounds - could mimic the phone buttons sounds I heard when someone was making a call. I don't do that any more cause it apparently bothered my family. These days I produce a variety of animal sounds that sound very realistic I am told. Most of the time I have control over them especially when I am in the presence of other people. But there is one sound that turns up on its own, especially when I'm feeling alone or lonely. It's a little chirp. :)

The other day when I was in the kitchen, I noticed a pot lid upside down on the kitchen bench top. I automatically spun it and watched it spin around making slight 'wogga wogga, wogga' sounds lol. There was something very satisfying and calming watching it. So when it ran out of 'spun' I did it again. That's stimming, right? I often don't do such conspicuous stimming when around people and at that time, I was alone in the kitchen.

In public places (like my office or a classroom) I tap my feet or my fingers.

If I'm not wearing shoes (I try not to but frequently am told I should) I like to rub my feet back and forth on carpet or cold tile or a cold, smooth surface.

When I read journal articles or academic texts rocking back and forth seems to help me focus.

More rarely I'll rock back and forth on my feet... usually when there's music playing.

When I give a lecture or presentation or talk on the phone I pace.

I possess an extreme form of stimming. This behavior is directly connected to the autistic
daydreaming that I do. The stimming that I do is subconsciously performed. My state of
consciousness is strongly altered when doing this. My entire body is involved, and can be done lying down, walking, or standing. If someone witnessed this, it would appear extremely bizarre! I also like to stim uttering nonverbal sounds. I feel that these behaviors act to maintain something necessary for my wellbeing. It is a form of exercise, escape, and recreation. Perhaps it elevates endorphins in the brain and helps sustain it.
