I'd like to check out the Menil Museum. It's a quiet, creative space.

The Butterfly Exhibit is pretty cool.

There's also the zoo.

Or we can just hang at SHFL and order food :chin:

Boring? I distinctly remember a potential mustard fiasco 8O heh

I didn't talk much myself, either. I felt awkward, too, but it wasn't my first time around a group of aspies. Hopefully, I'll be more verbal next time.

I wonder if Star Pizza would deliver to Menil park....

I feel "safe" at the Menil...

I can't say I have not had some sorta irrational anxiety episode at Herman Park...

the only thing i really like at hermann park is the train...especially the new one :) ...and of course the zoo...on the least busy of days.

last time i went to the zoo i saw some zoo workers, in an empty exhibit, training huge australian dogs to herd cheetah cubs :o

I'm sorry I didn't get to join you. I had more shopping that I had thought, I underestimated everything.

I'll be back in town during the holidays, so maybe I can join all of you then.

That was a fairly specific reason I felt edgy about the idea of hitting this meetup. I never eat-out. I particularly don't like the crowds, but I also feel that eating is for eating, not conversation, which makes communicating especially awkward...sitting around with strangers having food stuffed in their mouths or a straw hanging off their lip. I guess it's a good excuse for dead-air, but not very comfortable. If I had attended, I wouldn't've eaten/ordered anything, which probably would've made you guys uncomfortable and to be considered "weird" to those generally considered "weird" isn't a very happy start. But then again, I don't do much of anything --my fun is spending a few hours at a bookstore or "communing with nature" like the neo-hippy that I am. Crowds aren't for me...

not that I disappointed any of you, being as none of you know who the hell I am! (So that's what a laugh looks like? hmmm...I need to practice in the mirror and paint my face yellow)

Who is that dude with the long hair? *heart palpitates* If he's going to be there, I don't think I'll come. 8)

j/k
SSSooo, anyway. Now that I see what everyone looks like, I will probably be comfortable enough to join in the next outing, if there is one. Still packing (but obviously that was used as an excuse // if I can make time to piss and shower, I'm sure I have the time to hang with and observe interesting people). I popped in on the event scheduling last minute, which made a girl a bit anxious.

That SuperHappyFunLand (or whatever it's termed) seems really awesome. Are you an artist? 8O Right there hops me on the bus of excitement! Oh gosh, to have missed that place will remain the worst travesty I have ever experienced. Check out that bad soap-opera acting. I gots da mad skillz!

Okay, so I see pictures...Who exactly is everyone? (that was a very awkward sounding sentence) And how likely is there to be a future meetup? If there is one, and you want more company, I request a ride in advance! PICK ME! PICK ME!! OOooo!! ! *jumps up and down* I feel like Horshack...Anyway, I won't be getting my motorcycle license until later this year (when the temperature cools down so that I can survive two days of outdoor class), so my transportation options are nonexistent. I live in Deer Park/Pasadena where Metro does not traverse. Yeah, it's THAT scary over here!...a bit of d'ole ULTRAVIOLENCE! It has it's nostalgia.

So, yeah. I also vote for any activity that is FREE because I just dropped the last of my cash and have none currently coming in. It was a good 5 month run *sigh* I guess it's back to selling my ass.

Anyway, keep me updated. And feel free to barr my entry into your little group. I can be pretty scary! Demon to some / Angel to others  and wish not to disrupt anyone's sanity

awww. i'm jack, aka the father of that bulge in purple-dressed-girl (aka ana54). and i live in channelview, and, as i mentioned before, i'd be happy to pick up any pasadena/deer park people.

the museum idea sounds fun. i've never heard of the one you guys're talking about. but i'm up for any museum. kate (ana54) and i were going to go to the natural history museum today but didn't out of exhaustion.

you would have felt at home with me and stephaniecatherine (is your real name stephanie? i still think that's awesomely telling that none of us thought to do introductions.) at the end of the table, occasionally chatting with each other about how we couldn't hear everyone else over the din of the restaurant (which wasn't crowded at all) and the music on the speakers, and how very familiar this situation was, to be in a social happening and not even being able to distinguish the noise of the group from the background noise. still, it didn't seem awkward at all with that crowd. and kate and i might end up eating sandwiches at home before the next outing.

So, is the Menil home of different artistic mediums or primarily paintings? It would be nice to see sculptures. I guess I could just look it up? Okay okay...I was trying to take the easy way out. I believe I read it mentioned in the thread that it also has a park? Sounds ideal. I haven't been outside in...*counts on fingers* months. I'll be the one painted in sunblock! :o Please tell me the park comes equipped with a plentiful helping of trees. I'll take seconds.

Swinging off-topic here for a moment. Is there anywhere around Houston which has a nice foresty area to camp or hike or anything like that? This place is so urbanized....the concrete-jungle with steel-beam trunks. The closest place around me is a park built on a landfill with lovely decomposing garbage occupying the adjacent lot complete with stink.
