Just watched the movie Mystic River. In the end Sean Penn's character murders Tim Robbins character after concluding he had murdered his daughter. Then the real killers are found. And what does Sean Penn's wife do? She says to Sean Penn that its all right, he's a king and kings have to take action. The cop investigating, Kevin Bacon just lets it slide.

This sums up my view of how the NT world works. It's all about social order, never admitting you are wrong (unless it's done in a way that raises social status). They can murder the wrong guy and still be a king. Do others think like this?

I also think they all found it easy to cast out Robbin's character after what happened. Even his wife only supports him until she doesn't understand him it seems. Even before all of that Sean Penn's character menaces Robbin's guy anyway. Somehow everyone else is above suspicion. And as soon as Tim's guy opens up when confronted Sean and all of his goons basically laugh it off and kill him. I'm not sure if I believe the whole world functions on an ignorant assaultive level, but there certainly is a prevalence to blame and crucify "odd" people that society as a whole don't understand. And yes most people are patted on the back and elevated in the "ranks" for such behavior. Fear is the law and people would rather strike out than let anything in. Very concise observation. Good topic for a thread!

you don't know that. it's a pretty open ending. and the gesture he does at the parade suggests that he won't just let him slide. at least that's how I inerpreted it.
