Hiding your special interest

Wondering how do you hide your special interest. Whether you are embarrased by how much your life is spent on your special interest or its something people might not understand like pron or guns. Just wondering if you hide it sometimes how are you able to.

My special interest at the moment is WP but I generally try not to talk about it because people just won't get it, and I am also ashamed of it (I wish my special interest was something more productive). Fortunately for me, my special interest changes over time.

I used to hide the intensity and sometimes the nature too, depending on the people. Nowadays I don't really have anyone who cares, so I'm pretty open about it.

I don't really hide it, but I won't bring it up unless someone asks me about it.

I have a specialist interest but I do not talk about it with anyone as I am surrounded by people who are as thick as two short planks. Since my specialist interest is science I have not had the chance to do any since I was in my late teens so this has been very distressing.

I have always talked psionately of my interests and babbled about it but over the past 2 yer I am more obsessed with PCs you know processes and generally the internet. I am also pretty insane for british politics I know mot prime ministers 90% except the minimal ones as they do not matter only being stewards I actually say stewards, I did have a couple o yeas back a CRAZY obsession for Tolkein bu realise I hated fiction today other than harry potter its the oly fiction i like

on interest for me though tha has always held is I love cookbooks and cooking progrms it is something I love I like watchingthe process, it is so beautifully logical I have been like that since I was 3 I builtup avast knwledge of fod and nutrition which is one of my long term interests obsessions

Long before I knew about Asperger's, I would not only go monologuing about my interests but I would even study things with the primary intention of generating conversation topics.

Oh I hide it big time, except with the people who share it. Fortunately, there's a website for that.

I hide the more childish ones except from people who share them, usually an online community. The more acceptable ones, I tend to just not talk about unless asked -- then I'll talk their ear off.

I try to hide or not talk about my main interest which is stock market analysis. I am interested in the scientific side of it and money as well. But many males view the stock market as an alpha-male type of activity and their egos are threatened. Some kind of attack motivated by envy ensues. This is why I have had to disown my brother and brother-in-law.

Now I have some self-awareness of Asperger's I know that talking about special interests for me is a response to anxiety in conversation. Kind of a crutch that I use when I cant think of what to say and then I'll go on about it for too much. So I try to catch myself and not talk too much about economics and stocks.

I have considered creating some fake special interest like philosophy, scientology or selling Avon. To use as a 'cover'. lol

I'm lucky with one of my interests - human anatomy - as I work in a pathology lab, so nobody thinks it's at all weird. People outside vary; some find it fascinating, some think it's a bit icky, and some will ask me questions which, not being a doctor, I'm not qualified to answer. So I tend to keep quiet elsewhere.

I pretty soon learned at school that opening up about my afterlife/death/occult type interests often either got me seen as morbid, or targeted by religious freaks wanting to tell me I was in league with Satan. So, same goes for that one.

And, the Kurt thing varies. Most people know I'm a Nirvana fan, but a lot of people don't realise how much. (Many have not, for example, seen the tattoos ....) There's the 'You're a bit old for that, aren't you?' reaction, and then there are the other reactions which teens who are into him sometimes get which are the 'OMG you must be into drugs/about to kill yourself' reactions...and then, even in fandom, there's the conspiracy theory stuff, which I have no interest in. So, again, tend to keep that one to myself.

I hide it well by simply never talk about it so nobody knows whats my special interests

In my teens I had a special interest my parents didnt like I was fond of.
I found very creative ways on beeing able to keep that interst and hide things around it.
In my room I had photos of the special interest on the back of the door and on the wall next to it another general photo.
When I was walking out my room I put the other poster above it so nobody saw whats behind it....
