Last post by me today, promise.
I'm going to see the psychiatrist because my dx of Asperger's means nothing until he diagnoses me.
I was dx'd by a psychologist.
So yes, today I have to convince him I have AS.
I also want to be dx'd with inattentive ADHD because it's making my life really hard.

Wish me luck!

Good Luck. May all that you wish to be accomplished, be so accomplished in a manner which is satisfactory to you and may all the surprises and excitements involved be pleasant. Imagine I am wafting incense or some pleasant calming aromatic you prefer around you and chanting or otherwise generating a calming auditory experience for you as you center yourself for your endeavor.

good luck from here, too.

the whole assessment/diagnosis thing is so weird, I swear. my psychiatrist can't make mine official, so I have to go to a neuropsychologist.

when I got my daughter assessed to help with her IEP, the dx had to come from her physician, but medical doctors don't assess for ADHD, so I had to take her to a child psychologist, who sent her report to the physician, who made the dx official. talk about screwed up!

I hope you get what you need today.

Well it turns out I have Asperger's syndrome. I didn't see that one coming.

It's good though, the psychiatrist has been more help than my psychologist. So I'm finally official now, phew.

I'm actually on my way out the door right now to start the first appointment (and thus my first step) with a psychiatrist to be diagnosed. Let's hope it goes as well for me. :s

It was just one session. I gave him a short essay on my symptoms that he glanced at while asking me some questions. He asked my mum about my birth and things like that. It was just like with the psychologist - half way through he was sure I had it, but he didn't want to give me a diagnosis because he felt it would do little. He still gave me one and he thinks it's best I go on a disability pension. I think it's a good idea so I can take the stress off looking for jobs that I'll never get, and I'll have some time to work on my book.
Funny thing about the assessment was I just opened up and blurted all my feelings out - I didn't even care if my mum was hearing it.

thanks for describing it. it actually sounds like it would be a relief. here one must have a diagnosis to go on disability, and my disability check (although too small to support me and my kids) definitely took a lot of pressure off so I can take time to figure out where and how I can earn a real living. it would be very cool if it allowed you to write.
